Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi All - My wife and I are approaching retirement and we're thinking we kinda like the idea of getting an RV and traveling.  We have so many questions that we're not sure where to start.  Found this site today and think it's as good of a place as any. Hopefully we'll get a lot of info by reading through the posts, and asking questions when they arise.  I think we're leaning toward a 5th wheel, but more research needs to be done for sure.  New or used? I was thinking new, but one of the sites I was looking at seemed to say everything built after 2007 is crap, and buying used ('07 or earlier) is the way to go, just on quality, in addition to saving some $$$ up front.  Anyway, I just wanted to say 'Hi', I'll go back to my reading now.  Cheers

Rent to determine if RVing is for you. Rent different types to learn what you like. Then buy.

That's silly! Some RVs are better than others, sure, but 10 years old is...10 years old.

 You mean some"body" on one of the sites stated their opinion. As Larry said... 10 years old is 10 years old. How one maintains their rig goes a long way toward how well it will hold up. Yep, the rig still needs good bones to start with, and rigs are bult to a variety of price points... you get what you pay for, new or used.

Welcome Mark and Pat. I would also disagree with the person that made the statement about "everything built after 2007 is crap". Anyone that makes a blanket statement like that is wrong and shouldn't be trusted. I think you'll be able to find something that will suit you well. Good luck.

Welcome to the site! Tons of great information and great people on this site. You might want to check into the Fall RV Dreams Education Rally if you can make it. It will really help you out in your decision making process and you will meet a lot of people that can help. Many are in the same situation as you. May I suggest that, in addition to the RV-Dreams web site and forums (go over to the main RV-Dreams page from the forums and read all the educational information Howard and Linda have put out there) that you check out some other good sources of information:

The Escapees forums:

And the owners groups/forums for any brands of RVs you consider buying. The folks who own the particular makes of RVs - be they motor homes or towables - know the pros and cons of their brands better than most. (I was a member of the Forest River group when we owned a Forest River product and am now very active on the Grand Design Forum. I have found it very helpful.)

All good points posted above. Also keep in mind as you read through the RV forums you are only seeing posts by a very small portion of the RV'ing public. With millions of RVs out there I doubt if less than 1 percent of the RV owners post on RV forums.

A majority of RV owners are completely satisfied with their RVs.
