Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Welcome! Do you have your RV? Or are you looking? Where do you want to go first?

No don't have it yet. Looking to get a fifth wheel. As for where to go first. That's a tough question. May just stick a dart in the map. Lol

Have you done much RVing before?  If not, I would suggest renting one for a week or two trip.  Yes, that will cost some money, but well spent if it turns out you really don't like RVing.  Seeing lots of CruiseAmerica Class Cs out this weekend all over the northwest.   Renting lets you get a feel for living in a small space, the ins and outs of set up, using RV systems, unhooking, etc.

Also, don't rule out a motorhome just because the majority of people on this forum have 5th wheels.  smile

Yes we have done tons of it for years. Went for two months this past year. Have always loved it. Hubby would like any type but I don't like the flat front on Class A's. Also you can get a lot more for your money with a fifth wheel.

Space-wise yes that's true... however, don't forget the substantial amount you'll have to have for a suitable tow vehicle for any 5er over ~15k GVWR. Even decent used truck will set you back at least $30k plus the hitch. Brand new dually trucks can easily top $60K. Then there is always upgrades worth considering if you plan to go full time in a 5er... better suspension and brakes than stock gear. You'll find that a fiver can get prettty costly as well. Barb is right to at least consider a motorhome but weigh the decision on what you plan to get out a future full-time RV adventure. MHs are typically suited to more "mobile" lifestyles and 5ers tend to be better at remaining in one place for longer periods of time. But it's not set in stone. Everybody is different and personal nuances in tastes and preferences will tilt the RV scale differently from one person to the next. Good luck with you research.

FWIW, Brian

Not if we're talking DPs in the mix.  Gassers, yes because no pass throughs, but we have storage space we don't use.  When we drop the air, easier to get into and out of, etc.  Each has pros and cons and one really needs to spend time in each, going through the motions of daily living.  Kick of shoes and climb in the shower.   Can you wash your hair with cracking you elbows.  Sit on the toilet, can you close the door, are your knees under your chin.  Slides in, can you get to, AND use, bathroom, refrigerator, bed.?biggrin

A couple things that influenced our decision on buying a motor home, was the 7.5kw generator, stacked washer and dryer, and ability to stop for rest or overnight without exiting. There are pluses and minus to each. Get the style you prefer and get out here exploring!

Not all DPs are created equal. We have seen some that are so crowded with the slides in that it was virtually impossible to even get to the bathroom, let alone the bed. I agree there are some pretty roomy DPs.... $$$$. You get what you pay for. Still, if spacious were the criteria for a given dollar point... I'll take the 5er.... at least for the lifestyle we envision, those likely to be more mobile than us, might want to consider a Class A,B or C as it suits them. More power to what works for you Barb.smile
