Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Goodyear G114's unusual wear.


I have talked to two different people who have had a recent problem with their G114 tires.  Interestingly, both were in DRV Mobile Suites.  Both had the same failure ... tread worn out in the middle of the tire.  One guy had it happen to him twice.  That's a classic "overpressure for the load" wear pattern, but both assured me were running the tire pressure required "by the chart".  Both were full timers one for 5 years and the other for 7 years.

I know that G114's are highly recommended, but have others have the same problem?  I ask because I will soon be putting these on my rig and they are too expensive to make a mistake on.

ONLY issue I have read about is two loss of center tread on GY "H" 17.5" tires. The tires and any damage were handled by GY. The GY "H" tires have a stellar record.

We have over 120,000 miles of experience with the G114 tires with absolutely no issues - period.  

Are the tires in question, perhaps, running on axles that are not properly aligned?  While the symptoms indicate inflation issues, I just bring this up for consideration.  Do the DRV's have straight axles or the MORryde IS which is align-able?

We've had the tires on two different trailers and have never had any uneven wear issues - both had MORryde IS.  Our current set have some 47,000 logged miles and are still at 10/32+ and are "flat" across the tire.  I vote for some other issue and I still offer the question of the inflation being incorrect - i.e. high.  The maximum inflation for a G114 on an 8K axle trailer, which most DRV's have, is 105 psi.  That's with a +5 psi more number.  Why?  Because the maximum rated weight on an 8K axle hub is 4K per side.  4,000lbs per the Goodyear chart is 100 psi.  Its easy to over inflate these tires to 125 psi which is their max psi. At 125 psi the tire is rated for 4,806 lbs which is way high for (most) RV wheel weights, assuming one knows the wheel weights and is not overloaded on a hub.

Ron, I'll send you the chart should that be helpful.  You are not making a mistake with this tire.  You are with a lessor tire, IMO.

Not sure about the gent I talked to in Texas (he had two fail in the same way), but the couple here in Tennessee does have the MorRyde IS.

I run a full 125 on mine. I am a firm believer in running 5 psi over what the chart says for the heaviest tire in each axle. I have two axles.
