Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello All,
Our 2014 F450 is about to exit it's warranty period. While at the dealer today for some service work I inquired about Fords Premium Care Extended Service Plan.
This plan would extend us another 5 years or another 75,000 miles whichever comes first. The plan cost $3,860 and there is a $100 per visit deductible. The list of covered items is extensive and the list of non covered items is fairly short.
Just as an example I brought my truck in for an oil change and it turns out I have a small crack in the radiator. Luckily still under warranty by 12 days but had it not been the repair would have run a $1000+ .
My question is, are any of you getting extended warranties and have they worked for you?

I decline them. These plans are money makers for the insurers...not those insured. Sure, you may be the lucky person with an extended policy and a problem but those aren't the odds.

Larry, I agree with you on TV's, iPads, cell phones and washing machines, but not on big ticket items. We buy life insurance (most of those don't pay off), we buy flood insurance (most of those don't pay off) ... we buy insurance for a reason ... because the consequences of "it" happening are close to catastrophic. Thus life insurance, long term care insurance and extended warranties on high dollar diesel trucks. Ask Howard about that. If you can afford to self insure, good for you, but don't discount the value of extended warranties on a diesel tow vehicle. One engine, one turbo, one transmission or one differential would make it worth the money ... IMHO.

You don't have to buy the warranty from your dealer. There are Ford dealers that will sell the warranty at discounted prices. I bought mine from Greenville Ford in MA for 2239.00 and got the Premium Care for 72months or 125000 miles. Google "Ford extended warranty" and save a lot.
Yep, we wish we would have had one on our truck. Lost the engine on our 2005 Ford truck in 2012 with only 60,000 miles but it was out of warranty on time. Cost to replace was $17,000. And there is at least one other couple on this Forum that bought the extended warranty and also lost their engine. They were glad they had it.
I'm with RonC on this one - no, for small items, but yes for big ticket items unless you can self-insure comfortably.
We have extended warranties on both the truck and 5th wheel. The RV extended warranty has more than paid for itself in the first 2 years.
As of yet, we haven't used the truck warranty. We DID lose our engine in our 2012 F450, however, since it happened at 51K miles, it was covered under the original warranty. I will say it gives me peace of mind to have those warranties.
Another comment regarding buying an extended warranty, if you have an F450, the only extended warranty you buy is through Ford. Wholesale Warranties and other brokers can sell extended warranties for F350 or smaller trucks, but F450s are in a different class.
Count us on the side for extended warranties. We had one on our first coach that we transferred to our second coach and after three years we are in the black. Last April we had to have our long slide (24') adjusted. The had to completely remove the slide ,cost $2600.
This may be an odd question but where did you stay while the slide was being repaired? (haven't even purchased Our RV yet(by summer 2018)... but WOW am I learning alot reading these discussion boards...
