Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

When we made a trip to Washington DC, we stayed at the Cherry Hills Park in College Park MD. It is the closest park to DC and has both Metro and tour bus pickups that come there for guests.

Cherry Hill is…I think…located in a fairly built up area…but is pretty close for catching the Metro. If you want a more rural setting and don't mind a slightly longer Metro ride…check out Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville VA. It's a rural setting park with wonderful sites. It is about 20 minutes to the metro station and another 40 or so into downtown from there but in either case I would personally suggest taking the Metro downtown rather than worrying about having to find parking. Metro has a daily and 3 day pass and is easy on/off…I think the pass covers Metro buses as well although not the city buses but I never used the bus part of the system.

We always stay at Bull Run when we return to the DC area for dentist/eye doctor/financial advisor visits once a year or so. Lake Fairfax is also nice…pretty rural area and about as far from the Metro as Bull Run is…but the sites there are E/W only with a dump station.

We stayed at Bull Run Regional Park In July this year. The park was nice with W/E hook ups and free functional WiFi at the park store. They have a decent laundry there too. There is a water park there also if you have kids. Bull Run National park is 5 min. away. The drive in to the closest metro station was 30 min from the park. We rode the metro all week in and out of DC. I would not drive in to DC ride the metro instead.
Heads up don't bring any kind of pocket knives with you into DC. You will be screened at most every building you enter and they will not allow anything that someone might call a weapon.

Pohick Bay in Lorton, VA is another option. Probably 10 minutes to the Metro in Springfield. It's a state park with a 14 day limit and full hook-ups.

If you are OK without hookups, Greenbelt Park, a National Park site in Greenbelt, MD, is inexpensive and very convenient to D.C. via the Metro (College Park station). We were campground hosts there for 3 months during the winter of 2014-15 and really enjoyed the park and the ease of getting to downtown Washington.

Just returned from Cherry Hill Park. It is "sorta" in the city but I can say for sure that it has everything you need. Pool, FHU, wifi, mini golf, on site techs, etc. The Metro Bus is on site and runs 4 or 5 times an hour. 20 minute ride to train and then 20 minutes or so into the heart of DC. I personally don't think that you can go wrong by staying here.

We have stayed several times at Cherry Hill RV park. Once we stayed at Pohick Bay, but it doesn't compare to Cherry Hill. Pat K
