Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are crossing the border next week and we have 2 house plants. Has anybody had any experience with this and is it an issue? I researched this both on the Canada and the US border sites and found that houseplants are OK if part of your personal effects and are not staying in Canada. They do seem to have issues with importation of plants for sale. As with anything government it is the conflicting details that drive me crazy. The language about carrying house plants is buried in the regulations.
Any body have any real life experiences?
Mark

I don't think that you can bring along plants across the borders, just like any vegetables or fruits; the main reason concerns bringing contamination from one country to the other.

I got this from the US Border Patrol:
4. Avoid taking items that are restricted or prohibited from entering Canada. For instance, household plants and dirt generally can enter Canada temporarily. However, under no circumstances can outdoor plants or firewood enter Canada.
Sounds to me like I can take the house plants in pots as part of my stuff as long as I am returning with them.
That is why I am asking if anybody has done this. Seems toe that they wouldn't let us take them. Anyway, I can't not take them at this point as we are just a few miles from the border now with no place to leave them. We plan to let them know we have them and just see what happens.
I was hoping someone had actually tried to take a house plant through Canada.

Nobody ever asked us about house plants…guns, cash money, why you're visiting, tobacco, alcohol, chicken and eggs get asked about typically. Occasionally produce but usually not. Plants…never. Been across the border probably a dozen times since on the road full-time in 2012…east, west, and Alaska border crossings.
