Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

The strings are beginning to wear in the day/night shades in our Teton 5th wheel. Any suggestions or "how to's" out there?

I've had to restring a couple that broke and I just carefully ran the new line following the one that broke. Didn't have any problem.

It's been a while but I had to restring the shades in our Teton. As I recall, I found the name of the manufacturer of the shade on the underside of the bottom rail and looked them up on the internet. The manufacturer's site had instructions on how to restring the shades. It wasn't too difficult.

First of all, welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  Hang around a while and you'll soon see that there are a lot of folks here that can provide answers and advice to any questions you have.  They area also very encouraging.

I "Googled" the phrase "restringing RV blinds" and found a few how to videos as well as some with still images and instructions.  Here is one:

How to Repair RV Blinds Good, Quick, and Cheap

Presuming that your blinds are the "day/night/ blinds, we watched a demonstration once at a regional RV rally.  The couple doing the demonstration had a few tips.  One was to purchase some upholstery needles so that one could thread the line through several pleats at once instead of just a few at a time.  I have no experience in this, but the gentleman helping also suggested fishing line instead of the regular line for blinds.  He claimed that the fishing line would last longer than the regular line.

They also suggested taking the blinds out and finding a large table in the RV park's lounge on which to work.  With everything laid out on the table, it looked very organized and they didn't have to juggle the blinds around very much.

Some people that used fishing line said it wore/cut through the grommets.
I found the cord at a JoAnns sewing store. There were two sizes (7 and 9 mm ?), mine used the smaller size.

We bought string kit. Still in drawer. DW bought rather nice shades and installed. We like it better and no strings to contend with. Reminds me, need to clear out drawer. lol
