Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Every stick and brick is fighting me, but I'm determined

Greetings forum folks!   I'm new to the forum but I've been reading and admiring the blog for a few years, and I got to attend the Fall Rally this year, so shout out to Howard and Linda and all the nice people I met at that event, what a great group!

My status is, the house is determined to fight me every step of the way.   I still have lots of painting/fixing to finish before I can list the house, and this fall was the usual round of time and money spent on extra problems.  I am now the proud owner of a new roof that was not in the plan, for example.

From what I learned at the Rally, I started rethinking my trailer choices, and the one on top of the shortlist now is the Northwood Nash 22H.    I set off merrily towards Elkhart on my way home to check it out, only to discover the Northwoods are made and sold west of the Rockies!    And there was an East Coast Rally of Northwoods owners, but of course it was in September, because, well, that's how my luck runs.

This is of course a longshot, but I am traveling from Mississippi to Virginia for Christmas.    If anybody in the Southeast (or nearby like Pennsylvania/Ohio) has a 22H, year doesn't matter, or knows someone that does, please let me know if there's any way to arrange a brief visit during the week after Christmas.  I would be happy to offer a tank of gas in exchange for a walkthrough, and I can travel to most parts of the southeast.    I just don't want to make a long trip west on a buying trip until I get a gut feeling about the model and whether it would work for me.

Boy, do I understand that about your house. We have an old Craftsman and since we're both disabled, it's getting harder and harder to maintain it all. So, we decided the heck with it. We're doing a few things - walls, floors, etc., but we're selling it as is. We just want to be able to get rid of it and move on with our dream.

Hope you find your dream rig!

Totally, we can relate to the S&B fighting you (stealing from the RV fund as we call it). 4 years to go, and we have been upgrading everything bit by bit, appliances, flooring, trim, landscaping not to mention the routine stuff that is starting to add up, W/H failed, sump pumps failed, A/C closing in on end of its life, roof is 12 years old and had 2 heavy hailstorms in the past year so it's probably due for replacing. In all, it's starting to get expensive but if we don't stay on top of it, we won't command the price we need to convert the equity into an RV without tapping other assets. Still, we get to enjoy the improvements we're making so, its not all bad. We are determined too!smile

Welcome aboard, Pat.

Thanks, Trace!   Checked out your Chronicle, what fantastic  photos (and narrative) of the California coast!   Is some of that footage drone-assisted, or just fancy zooming?

Marion, that's a great blog, and I appreciate the commiseration.   Sounds like you have a more rational plan than I did, looking back I should have gone with 'as is' but now I'm halfway through the fixes so I hope the worst is over.   Except for getting all the Stuff out of here!

Brian and Cindi, you know what I'm talking about.  Seems one thing gets set right and something new breaks!   Do be sure the insurance company looks at the roof, we've had a lot of hail around here and sometimes they do spring for the new roof even if it's not heavy or obvious damage.  Not in my case of course...

Bill and I can also relate to the house fighting back feeling! In the months preceding listing and then even after listing, we had things happen - had to have a tree out ($600); washing machine quit ($650); new roof ($7200!); furnace quit ($1200'ish - a friend installed and gave us a really good deal); water heater quit ($0 - only out time it took to switch them out - was still under warranty); and a bunch of smaller stuff too! But - having listed all that - it is so worth it now to be out and about and FREE! (Well - except we are working at Amazon!).

Sorry - can't help with the RV!

Welcome and good luck!

Thanks!  I'm amazed that so many things could rock along fine for many years, and then break just when I need them to stay okay.

Love the blog.  Glad some people with brains are packing for Amazon this season.  I had somebody pack a gift ipod for me, basically naked with 1/8" thick teeny bubble wrap, dropped loose in a huge box, which of course got smashed by UPS.  What were they thinking and how many pennies saved if it just comes back as a return ?!?    I was going to imagine you resting and having a wonderful Christmas after the rush is over, but I guess you have to brace for a big rush of returns after the big day, too.

Appreciate the welcome!

Keep up the good fight! Have you checked out if there are any RV shows on your trip? Sometimes they will have west coast inventory if it is a national tour.

It's drone footage except for the footage of the roads, that was taken by a Go Pro on the hood of the truck :)

Woot-woot for wrapping up the workamping!

I just ordered a tile saw pump and blade from Amazon, tiling that little tub room has risen to 3rd on the Punch List From Hell. I'm trying not to think further about it til after Christmas!

Jon, good point about finding a show, that's probably the next move to call Northwood and see if they are showing at any eastern shows. Of course, no shows seem to be held late December, but oh my gosh there are a ton coming up in January!
