Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Extended RV travel on our horizon?

Hello!

My wife and I are thinking about an RV for some extended travel to see the country.  She'll be retiring next spring and I'll probably be about a year after.  We've never stayed in a large RV, but have camped and done short trips of a week or so in a VW Westfalia camper.  We have a small house we love at the NJ shore, and are thinking of snowbirding during winter months, or more.

My thoughts are for a motorhome in the low 30 foot range to have some living and storage space for extended trips, but Debbie isn't yet sure about us driving around in one of those "huge things".  I think she'll love it after she tries it and gets comfortable with it.  We'll probably try a rental for a trip, maybe to the Grand Canyon next spring.  I'm sure I'll also be nervous driving it at first but am sure I'll get used to it.  As long as I have some open roads and not too much tight, crowded streets to start out!

We're here to learn about coaches, places, lifestyles and all things RV!  I love reading about other peoples experiences on the forum and their blogs.  There's a tremendous amount of info here.  Thanks in advance for all the help and info we get here!

Don & Debbie

Your best bet will be to rent the type of motorhome (MH) you're interested in. Take it on a week to two week long journey to see how you and she will like it. Make sure it's a long driving trip and not just a short trip to a spot for a long stay. Drive, spend a night, drive spend a couple of nights, drive, spend a night...so on. Don't let bad weather delay such a trip. You want to experience the good with the bad on this test trip...

That's what we're thinking. Maybe fly in to Vegas, overnight around Kingman, up to Grand Canyon a couple days, then maybe Page area for a night or two, and maybe down around Sedona, then back to Vegas. We'll have to search out some campgrounds in several areas other than the national park. Still working out details. We're also wondering about the best time to go. For Debbie's vacation schedule, either the last week of March or end of May. March might be a bit chilly at night (just my luck the heat wouldn't work in the RV), but then May would be on a busy Memorial Day weekend and the following week. The Grand Canyon will probably be crazy on the long weekend, but maybe not too bad the rest of the week. I think most kids will still be in school.

Anyway, wish us luck for the trip and our period of discovery. Thanks!

Don & Debbie
