Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Baystar 2015 just purchased. We have used several times and feel I'm using correct sequence to retract levelers. I took out fuse to the equalizer leveler system and replaced it and I could get them retracted. Lowered and then couldn't retract again, pulled fuse, put it back in and would work once. Not sure if it's a possible solenoid or what. Any suggestions, thanks

pretty weird for sure but to me its obvious that when u pull the fuse then that's releasing(removing) power to something that's stuck?
so yes sounds like a bad soliniod
Are you running the engine or are you plugged to power while retracting the system ? Could it be a weak battery ?
I will agree you should always leave motor running or plugged in when using jacks Factory will tell us this also.But the weird part was simply removing the fuse reactivated the system
a couple of times. Its under warranyt so iam sure the repair guy will figure it out
after re reading things I see where he said "retraction" no motor running required while retracting, just a proper 12V supply to activate the solinoid

No all manufacturers do that. In fact to extend ours, the engine must be off so that the air can be dumped. And since ours retract on springs, engine being on isn't necessary. There are so many different systems one should never assume all operate the same way.

Regarding either having it plugged in or engine running in hindsight I was more referencing to running the slides in or out even though we were talking about jacks
I kind of sidetracked my thoughts on this one for sure. BUT to note once you turn on your Hydralic jack system and push the dump air bag switch the jacks should deploy and the airbags
should deflate no matter engine running or not. To note as far as I know dumping the air bags does not empty the air tanks that Iam aware of.
none of this would have anything to do with retraction (the engine running or the air deal) But u need 12V power to work to activate the solinoids that allow the jacks to retract which are assisted by springs(for retraction)

We can run our slides on, after deploying the jacks, on batteries. Manufacturer of our coach made sure there was enough battery power to do that.
When our engine is running the air bags inflate. In fact, that is one of the suggestions if a jack seems stuck with mud, etc., to start the engine so the the inflating air bags will help lift the jacks up off of the mud. And we have an interlock system such that the jacks can not be deployed with the engine running. Can be retracted, but not extended unless engine is off and parking brake in place. And it is always bags deflate, then jacks deploy.
Others may have a different system. That is why I always refer people to the instructions that came with their particular unit by the manufacturer as to leveling/slide deployment.

not completely true/Its ALWAYS recommended to either run the engine or plug into shore power when running sides in or out/. its certainly not mandatory but it most certainly
suggested/recomended
Now! back to the jacks. I have never tried deploying the jacks while engine is running but based on how the system is set up as I clearly indicated in my last post |I see no reason why you could not run your jacks while engine is running although its really not needed ASSUMING your batterys are properly charged
If your jacks are deployed and you start your engine your air bags WELL NOT inflate
HWH folks advise (during rally seminars) that running the big engine is preferrable while using the hydraulic pump. It ensures maximum voltage to the pump motor and longer motor life.
Heres what I found a fellow rver claims:
I normally run the engine while extending jacks to ensure the highest voltage possible is supplied to the pump motor, thereby decreasing the amperage draw by(and load on) the pump motor. This is a matter of choice, as upon arrival at a campsite the batteries involved should be at full charge. I just happen to know what a pump motor cost$$$$$. No need to run the engine while retracting, as the pump doesn't run during retraction.

I always start the engine before retracting the jacks and the bags are inflating before I hit the store function for the jacks - that way there is a cushion so the coach doesn't rock as much, which is very nice if you are on a very uneven site. Our slides can not be extended while the engine is running, there is an interlock that blocks that. Therefore when boon docking, we do it on our batteries. Our rig has sufficient battery power that we can do a complete setup without a problem.
As I said, each manufacturer does it differently and one should follow the manufacturer's instructions. Which we have followed for 10 years with our coach. Again, different manufacturers have different procedures based upon their design.

I have no slide interlocks All the ones I have owned( 3) diesel pushers the slides would go in and out with the engine running
next time just for the interest of it make sure your jack switch is on and the dump valve switch activated
assuming you have a manual dump switch and u will see your air bags wont inflate when sitting jacks down,engine running
also to note if your jacks are out and the MH is raised above your driving down the road height your bags wont inflate either
because the ride level switch will be open and air will exhaust as fast as it comes in! but that's only if your raised to that height or over
Anyhow ALL motorhomes with HWH hydraulic jack systems can have the "motor running" while deploying the jack system
and the air bags WILL NOT inflate during this process. WILL NOT INFLATE
EACH manufacturer does it differently and one should follow the manufacturer's instructions.
To return to OP's question, this is a warranty problem, let the dealer get it fixed.

that simply put is not true,. HWH makes the system and HWH jack systems will NOT let airbags inflate when jacks are being deployed with engine running
I must add assuming your jacks will actually work with engine running as mine do

If not, how do you know what types of interlocks are present in our coach? Did you spend time at the factory before they went out of business? If not, why are you calling me a liar. Just like I can't extend the big electric awning when the motor is running - there is an interlock to prevent that. Nor can you use the TV above the driver even with the generator going if the engine is running - there is an interlock to prevent that. And it is possible with our system, with the engine off, to deploy the jacks without dumping air, which we did when we changed out the jacks. We can manually dump air and extend jacks, or we can hit the automatic switch, which dumps air and extends jacks. Both of these are done with the engine off because the minute the engine comes on our air bags begin to fill. You're quote above uses the word "generally".

The fact is, that everyone should follow the directions from the manufacturer when it comes to the workings of their coach and not rely upon others statements about coaches in general, or coaches from different manufacturer.

Yes every coach builder will configure things different between the chassis builder and all related accessories. I know that for sure because I work on various motorhomes.
I have worked on many Rv and agree to a certain degree.The argument was in case you never read the posts was that some people here seem to think that you cant run the motor while the jacks are being deployed because the air bags wont deflate which as iam sure your well aware that that is 100% false and in fact will deflate(dump) as the jacks are extended even with the motor running for obvious reasons

no one called you a lair and yes u may have interlock switch which prevents your particular coach from allowing the jacks to be deployed while the motors running?BUT seems odd because you said you can start the motor with the jacks out so I doubt you have any interlock that stops engine from running while jacks are deployed
most others do not lock out the jacks working while motor runs but your 100% wrong in saying that when you hit the dump air/level switch with MOTOR RUNNING your air bags will NOT deflate and will stay inflated as you seem to think they do. your completely misunderstanding the situation Iam trying to describe here. I never said once your jacks are down and then for some reason you start the engine the bags wont try to inflate ! TWO ENTIRELY different scenario.s .I said and try and read this correctly please when deploying jacks and dumping air bags while letting the motor run they can not and will not fill back up .Impossible because of the previously described switch HWH incorporates into the sytem so this can not happen
