Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
For those who don't frequent the Escapees forum, I'm posting my question here... After the first of the year, we would like to head to Southern California to visit my wife's brother (lives in La Jolla). We expected sticker shock when looking at RV Parks in the area, but $60 - $90 a night and up is a bit much. A neighbor here at the RV Park on Aberdeen Proving Ground recommended Fiddler's Cove on Coronado Island (Navy facility), but they have NO availability for the month of January. The Admiral Baker Field RV Park seems to have availability, but the photos look like closely-spaced RVs circled around a grass field with a playground in the middle. At $30 a night, though, it would be a place to lay our heads down at night. Has anyone had any experience with the Admiral Baker Field park or can you recommend some budget-minded alternatives for about a week in the SD/La Jolla area for the first half of January?
Thanks!
Rob

We stayed at Admiral Baker a couple of years ago. It was as you describe, sites are close together but it worked for us for a week.
We have also stayed at Santee Lakes and Sweet Water Regional Park. Both nice parks that are a little more than Admiral Baker. Santee is about 5 minutes drive to the trolley system and shopping. Had a problem with ants at Sweet Water but can probably avoid that if you spray around your campsite.

Any private RV park will be 2 to 3 times the price of the military parks. And the private parks in and around San Diego area try to maximize the amount of RVs so the spaces are closely packed.
I would try for the Admiral Baker...
Silver Strand State Beach is basically a parking lot on the beach.
Our favorite but very pricey is Chula Vista RV Park and Marina.
otherwise you'll need to stay more inland to find a decent price.
