Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi everyone, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I found this site while I was doing research on RVs.  Why was I doing that you ask?  Well, my wife likes to take vacations, and lets be honest, who doesn't.  But her preferred vacation was cruises and now that we have kids those aren't as practical or romantic as they once were.

I prefer road trips myself and after some discussion we both decided that getting an RV would make for nice family trips without the stress of air travel, hotel reservations, etc.  We were thinking along the lines of a 5th wheel RV as it would give her the comfort she likes and I get an excuse to upgrade to a bigger truck.  And that led to my research into RVs.  

This seemed like a friendly site with lots of knowledgeable members so I figured I sign up and say hi.  I'm sure I'll have questions later, just as soon as I learn enough to know what questions to ask.

Gabriel,

Welcome to the RV Dreams site and forum "family."  You'll find this to be a good source of information with respect to RV's and the RV lifestyle.

When doing your research, I'd say to make a choice of a fifth wheel first and then choose a truck that is heavy enough to "handle" the size of fifth wheel you've chosen.  It's one thing to be able to "pull" the RV, but another to safely handle in crosswinds and in braking.  As an example, I wanted some leeway in the truck I chose, meaning that it is more than big enough to handle the RV of our choice.  Our Mobile Suites is 18,500 lbs in its GVWR, so I wouldn't have been happy with anything smaller than a Ford F450 (at the time of our research.)

Good luck with your planning and research.  Be sure and look to the very foundation of the RV, which is the frame, axles, suspension, wheels and tires to be sure you have something that is sufficient to the size of your RV.
