Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
This was posted on another RV group member by a former cop. It is good for all of us to remember.
Recently while camping, I noticed several vehicles at a Wal-Mart in the parking lot with Campground parking permits hanging off the mirrors.
As a safety precaution, folks remove the parking permit once you leave the park and don't announce to the criminal public while you're at the local businesses - "hey I'm not at my campsite (Park XYZ, Site #123) so go rip off my campsite." Most permits have your park name and site # or have the park abbreviation.
also. Be a good campground neighbor, if you are sitting at your site and you noticed your neighbors leave earlier and now there's a different vehicle at the site. Here's is a test, If you have to ask yourself twice, "this doesn't look right, should I do something?" DO SOMETHING!!! - at minimum call the park security / patrol or E911

Good points. Again, please don't post on Facebook that you are going camping next weekend. If you have to post something, post that you WENT camping LAST weekend. This is old advice, I know, but still applicable.
I do have to take exception to :" Most COE parks do not have manning at the entrance during Monday - Thurs, until late afternoons - so there is normally no one checking during the daytime as the criminals come scouting the parks."
We have camped extensively in COE parks, here in the east, and MOST, not all, have a manned gates, from about 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and then the gates are closed and locked.

Our experience with COE parks is the same. Most have manned check-in points and in the midwest/east, most lock gates at some point in the evening. It was 10:00 pm in the Dallas area, other areas a hour earlier or later.

Jo Ann on Facebook (I'm not) and she will post about a place we just left, but won't say anything about where we are or where we're going. Of course, now that the S&B is gone that may be less of an issue.
We've been in COE parks twice in recent weeks and in both cases the gate was manned only a few hours each day. No gate at either one, either, so no problem coming in late or leaving early. I'm guessing that they try to have the gate manned at peak times, which may vary a bit from park to park. Also, if there are volunteers that can cover the gate some that may get it manned more hours per day.
I just copied and pasted it from a Facebook RV group. I shared it about the tags, not because of the COE parks. I will edit my original to make it more generic. Sorry if my sharing this upset anyone.

Interesting, one of the places that we are asked to tell them where we currently are is RV Village. So what is the concern really about? We're at a Thousand Trail park right now. Our hang-tag has our Last Name and when we will be leaving. No site number, etc. And once I get it hung, I usually leave it there because it is such a hassle to get it to hang in our car. Plus, there is a gate and we have the after-hours code.
We've been fulltiming for 9 years and don't lock the basement compartments unless the place is really, really creepy, we don't stay there. And we don't lock the basement bay doors - - if anyone is that desperate for a quart of oil, camp chair, or a can of pop, rather have them just get it instead of trying to break the lock. Last night one of the bay doors was inadvertently left up - - we see that happen to others all of the time. Yes, we lock the door into the main coach area when we leave, but we really feel comfortable in the places we stay.
