Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

What to do first?

We have pretty much made the decision to fulltime, know what rig we want and what size truck will be needed.  Getting the house cleaned out and some things done to put it on the market this next spring.  But my question is, What do we do next?

Husband has health insurance from former employer and is now retired and on medicare, I on the other hand am not retired yet and am on his insurance plan.

I feel like the next step is to call the insurance company and find out if we will have nationwide health coverage when we go fulltime.  But not sure of the questions I need to be asking. The thing we have not decided on is what domicile we will use and is that a major factor before calling the insurance company?  confuse

Sandy,

Search the forums for "health insurance" and you will find numerous threads on the topic. I think you stated your first question already, though. Many commercial insurance carriers do not offer coverage/plans in all states. You might have a conversation with the insurance company and feel them out without giving them too much information to see what states they would cover you in. Having that answer might help you decide on your domicile state.

Rob is right, but in addition some states will charge you mega bucks if you're under certain incomes etc.  We live in PA and are planning on going in 2016.  Up until about 2 months ago, I was planning on leaving our domicile as PA for the time being.  After I started to check out insurance and preliminary rates....wow!.....it's definitely NOT going to be PA.  It's looking like Florida now.  Take your time and do your research because this will be one of your biggest expenses, as I'm finding out now.  Take Care and good luck!!

Sandy,
The Dear Wife and I transitioned to full timing in March of this year. There are many things to consider as you transition to FTing and this site helped us tremendously. One of our major concerns was of course health coverage. There are choices out there that are surprising affordable. There is the Aforadable care act that has been discussed on this site and Howard did a summary of the ACA that was very helpful. I personally have chosen to stay away from the ACA and have found an alternative. I have not seen it discussed on this forum but it is a viable option for Heath care coverage. It is through Christian Care Ministery. I won't say anymore about it here as I support and respect Howard & Linda's rules for this forum. If you would like to discuss further send me a private e-mail and I will share what we have chosen for health care.
Regards
