Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a Dometic Fridge. Twice, recently, it has suddenly lost all power. In poking around, trying to find out what was wrong, Kev opened the outside lower access panel. There's a black box that has a reset "button" on it and when he pressed that it had power and resumed working just fine. He talked to someone at the RV place we would call for service, and the guy there said he'd never heard of such a thing and had no idea what was going on. Has anyone here ever had an experience like this? Any advice?
We did call, but all we got was a recorded message that asked for our zip and then gave us the name of a local RV tech, which is who we would use locally anyway. Maybe I need to look for another number for a tech line.
What is the model number of your fridge. And if pushing in the reset switch corrected the problem, the obviously that is what is needed. Your manual should explain what the reset switch does, do you have a manual?

Thanks, Lonney. It does look a little like what is shown there, only it doesn't have any LED lights. Kev and I will have to study it more to know if it is at all helpful. But thank you!
Model number RM1350MIMX
The manual says nothing about the reset.
You have the same Dometic model that we have and if you start a Google search on the issues with this fridge, you'll find plenty of reading material. I think Dale found one site that had 29 pages of comments, complaints, etc. We've had this happen more than once, but usually see an E3 error code where the temp is usually displayed on the outside of the fridge. It seems that when it decides to shut down it's because the fridge has detected that something has caused a overheating issue.
We've had the circuit board replaced, cooling unit replaced, added fans in the back of the fridge, etc. It's not as problematic as it used to be for us, but we still find that we occasionally have an issue with this error. Usually we can just reset it and everything is fine, but it's very frustrating to come back from a long day away from the RV and find the fridge has been off for a few hours.
We've actually thought about replacing it, but haven't found one that fits within the dimensions we have and we are not ready to go with a residential fridge as we boondock several times a year.

Without getting into the “residential refrigerator vs. RV unit” discussion, may I suggest this company:www.fixyourfridge.com - Leon Herschberger.
We, along with Howard and Linda, have used Leon for repairs. H&L had their entire cooling system in the fridge replaced and have been very happy with the results. There is a thread someplace Howard wrote concerning all this in 2013.
You indicated you would replace your unit if you could find one that fits. This solves that problem as you don't have to replace the actual fridge "box" and you still in good shape for boondocking.
I'd give Leon a call and check this out if I had the issues described and see what he says.
Highly recommended.
Bill
On Edit: It was 2013 when H&L had the work done. We were there at the time. Should have checked my log.
