Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I've been doing a lot of genealogy for both Dave & I and as I look something stands out - - no matter which family it is, from which country, going back 11 generations or more, we seem to be descended from those who moved on over the horizons while their siblings/parents stayed behind. So maybe our desire to see over the next hill is genetic and we were born to be fulltimers, unlike our brothers & sisters who live within 100 miles of where they grew up.

Don't know if it's inherited, but it can certainly be influenced. Both of my parents have been full time RV'ers at one point in their life, both love exploring national parks and monuments so that was instilled in me from an early age. I also had one set of grandparents who used to take long road trips, cruises, etc. Then when they got home we all got the slide show to oooh and ahhh over. Made me want to see it all for myself!
Yep... my Dad's family came from Scotland and have been traced back to the clans that were nomadic. His mother was part Cherokee Indian so they moved around.
Every summer from the time I was 3 months old my family would take a 2 to 5 week vacation travelling around the US to see historic, geological, modern wonders, family and friends. Weekends were local trips to the desert, mountains or beach to camp.
My DW on the other hand came from a family that rarely left the county. She had never been on a camping trip. Her family would stay in motels....yuck !
I broke her in after the first week of marriage. We camped on the beach in a pickup with camper shell. She's been hooked ever since.

My way, way, way back ancestors were Moors that occupied Spain. Therefore my nomad gene is definitely present... Before i had any RVs in my life my job required moving @ every three years. It's my fate and my DNA.
We have many friends who take their grand-children in the RV for at least one trip a year. One couple has three grand-children and they let them each choose where they want to go, and take them separately. Probably some serious seed planting going on there. <g> I think my family is starting to appreciate it a little more because we are traveling to visit more often.

A related story I like to tell is about a friend's grandparents. My friend was the first grandchild and was born in Germany at a US Army base. His father's parents rarely traveled more than 50 miles from where they were born, but a first grandchild caused them to travel to Germany for 3 weeks. They ended up exploring and found they loved the adventure. For the rest of their lives they traveled all over the world. My friend said his uncle never forgave his father for getting drafted and going to Germany, since he didn't like his parents traveling. Sometime the travel gene is suppressed, but it is still there.
