Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Replacing Blinds with Day/Night Shades!

http://www.blindschalet.com

I'm thinking of ordering from these guys out of Arizona. Anyone else use them? I am going to replace the aluminum mini blinds with day/night pleated just like in the bedroom. I think I'll leave the aluminum mini in the bathroom and the one behind the kitchen sink.

The normal pleated day/night shades in RVs are notorious for the strings breaking. We replaced our 3 large pleated day/nights with 2" wood blinds, so we went the other way. The normal alternative is to use double roller blinds from http://mcdinnovations.com/index.php/american-duo-daynight-shades or http://www.unitedshade.com/catalog/roller-shades-for-rvs/.   People seem very happy with the double roller shade approach to day/night shades.

Our home on wheels have the double roller shade and we are very pleased with it.  it prevents people from seeing in the windows while allowing us to have sunlight.

We ordered and installed (in our previous 5th wheel which we sold this spring) day/night roller shades from Blinds Chalet. We were very happy with them. We also ordered 1" faux wood blinds for the kitchen and bathroom windows. A big improvement over aluminum mini blinds.

Just be sure you measure carefully as you cannot return them if they don't fit.

I'll have to look into the 1" Faux.....Sounds like a great change.

I know they give "Strict" guidelines on their website about proper measuring.

Thanks for the great feedback on the company.

We may upgrade our rig in a few years, so we are sticking with our pleated shades....which means that I have gotten really good at restringing them. :). One trick I found is to use floss threading needles to fish the line through the compressed pleats. These are blue plastic threaders that dentists give out for people with bridges. They have gigantic loops on them. Next time you are in for a cleaning, ask the hygienist for a sample. They come 3 or 4 to a pack, so you can give them out to all your friends when you get back to the campground. :)

Yeah, you're right.  I replaced one set in my dining room, and have repaired broken strings for 3 other people so far.

(when my roll of 500 feet of cord is out, I am not getting another set).

Instructions are online, and relatively simple.  Just remember to FOLLOW the stringing instructions.

The hardest part will be taking the blinds off the window and off the window box.

cheers,   search google for day-night shade restringing, there's a basic video, and printouts, for 2& 4 string models

We got tired of restringing.
