Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Oh! WoW! ...that RVParky site is really good too! Thanks, Sr Fox!
Bookmarked!
I'm kinda nervous about sleeping overnight at a Trans Canada Hwy rest area. I guess if there was another rv there with me, it would be ok. I just don't want to be alone there, because that's where all the chainsaw massacre people hang out. But, yes, I would like to have the option to consider saving money along the way by staying overnight in a free place. - I noticed the campsites in the other site were $30. give or take, per night. That RVParky has a wealth of places! Thanks!
I was worried about the distances between a place to stay overnight, but I looked around, and 'so far' I haven't come across any rv park distances exceeding 62 miles.
I'm comfortable with that.
Thanks again to both of you!!

We went from Ontario to Jasper a couple of years ago....The Thunder Bay KOA is nice.....Just before you get to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, there is a very nice campground, Millers I am pretty sure its called.
If you happen to have an iPhone or iPad, get the app "RV Parky". You can set it up with whatever filters you want, such as 50-amp service, pets, WalMarts, truck stops, etc., and you can do a map search and it will display them and a link to the campground, plus there's reviews and pics on many of the campgrounds. It's a very good app, and it's free!

Hi, Poncho
I looked up The Thunder Bay KOA. - It's got nice pictures

Hi, RonandBee
I don't understand anything about an iphone or ipad ...and I don't even have a phone in my home. - I don't like them.
I like laptop communication.
Yes! I can get the RV Parky site on my laptop!
I'd like to have internet all the time when I'm traveling, so, I'm going to see how much that would cost with Rogers.
We have a Rogers hub...took it on our Ont-Alberta trip...worked well. WE pay $90/month for 20 gig of data.
Thank you for the Rogers information ...though I don't know what a Rogers hub is?
Do I need one of those small satellite dishes, or will the internet just be in my laptop while I'm traveling along?
The hub is the receiver/modem......It is kind of like a cell phone to send/receive the internet over cell phone service. It is 120 volt, but can be powered by an inverter in your car/RV.....Go to a Rogers store and they will explain it better. We live out in the country, so its the only way we can get high speed internet out here.

Oh! ..So I plug the receiver/modem into the inverter, that's plugged into the lighter socket?
...and then I plug the receiver/modem into my laptop?
Yes, 'when the time comes' I'll talk to Rogers about it.
I use Good Sam's trip planner tool for an initial plan (and then refine based on area). It's a free tool for Good Sam's members and you can plan your route, then overlay things along your route like campgrounds (public, private and good sams), camping worlds, pilot/flying J's, and misc. things to do. You can add stops; it will calculate mileage, gas costs, time, etc. Overall have found it very handy and a good resource. Have discovered it doesn't have ALL campgrounds (which is why I'll do some refining once we identify our stops) but great nonetheless!! I did check and it does include Canada.

Thanks, byseaandbyland ...excellent avatar!
I looked-up the Good Sam trip planner tool, but for my one time trip from Toronto to Vancouver, the Good Sam site necessitates a $$$ membership to use the trip planner.
The 'RV Park Reviews' site, ( http://www.rvparkreviews.com/?country=ca ) and the 'RV Parky' site ( http://www.rvparky.com/ ) are free.
But, thanks ...I appreciate the info all the same.
The Good Sam trip planner would be easy to follow available campsites on a map!
A couple of recommendations. Glowing Embers in Acheson (Edmonton area) is the only decent place we found in that area. Lions CG in Okotoks south of Calgary. Whistler in Jasper, Tunnel Mountain in Banff. Good one in Salmon Arm on West side of the lake but can't remember the name.

Thanks, Neil 'n Connie
'Glowing Embers' is 185 miles too far off of the Trans Canada Hwy.
The Lions Campground in Okotoks is close enough for me to keep in mind. Thanks
Whistler's Campground in Jasper is 114 miles too far off of the Trans Canada Hwy.
Tunnel Mountain Campground in Banff sounds promising. Thanks
I think the campground on the west side of the lake by Salmon Arm is called "Sandy Point Beach Campground". - I'll keep that one in mind also. Thanks
