Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Roaring into 2015

Hello All,

You probably read my post under 'Class of 2014' about how I had not really been on due to being depressed that our house had not sold in the fall and we we're going to now be the Class of 2015.   Well, what 4 days can do!!!  We had decided that if the house had not sold by April that we would look into renting it out.  So, Rick decided to go ahead and retire on December 31st and I booked us a cruise in January to celebrate.  Sun and Fun and all that.

WELL, on December 30th our realtor called (house was NOT still on the market. We took it down for the holidays) out of the blue and said that a realtor who knew we had split the land up and the house was now probably in the price range of one of her clients was interested in seeing it.  Would we show it even though it was not listed?  I said okay.  They said that afternoon at 4pm.  I panacked because the house was shrewn with boxes and stuff from us going through things.  I cleaned like a mad woman.   Gentleman can and looked and then left.  The realtor said it showed well and that he seemed interested, but you never know.  Later that night our realtor calls and asks us to sign a one time showing contract because guy is interested in putting in an offer.  Okay.  So faaxes went back and forth.  Then at about 9pm.  ANOTHER realtor calls who has a client that saw the add on Craigslist back at the beginning of December before we pulled it off the market.  They want to see it tomorrow.  Well sure, okay.  Next morning, December 31st,  We get an offer at 8am from the first gentleman.  we sit on it waiting for others to look.  They come, they go.  They maybe interested, but want to look some more.  So we counter with first guy.  Janury 1st, we are hauling my two old horses to TN to my sisters for retirement realtor calls guy countered back again.  He is sending the new offer to our phones.  We discuss on 8 hour round trip and counter back again.  Then at 11pm on Janury 1st we get  call that the gentleman has verbally accepted out offer and the signed offer will be delivered to us on Janury 2nd.

So in a matter of 4 days we went from not even having the house on the market to having it under contract with a closing in the first part of January.  In the next month we are going on a 7 day cruise, have to find the motorhome we want to buy, get rid of everything, have the cats vetted and microchipped and deal with all the stuff that goes into closing on 2 land parcels and then the house and land parcel.

Our Fulltiming plans just went from 0 to 150%.   So to all those who seem to think that it is not happening fast enough, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!!!  We are excited, scared, elated, and frustrated all at the same time

Wendy

Glad things are looking up for you, but you really shouldn't have been too panicky anyway.  It took Jo and I three years to get our house sold.  However, we did list it just as the housing market went south in 2008.

All I can say now is that I hope you two have been researching RV's for some time and have some good ideas of what you want.

Good luck in your future.

Oh, by the way, retirement is great.  It can snow like crazy and one gets to think that, "hey, I don't have to get out in this to go to work."  Just raise the blinds and look out upon beauty.

Terry

Thank You all,

We sat down and made a week by week plan so we wouldn't go mad and also would not be down to the wire with stuff still left to do.

Wow, congrats? or congrats!biggrin Let the fun begin?! I imagine a chaotic race to the finish line, too bad we don't have video of it with Benny Hill's "Yakety Sax" show ending bit. Make sure you have plenty of oxygenbiggrinbiggrin.  I'm reminded of a timelapse vid of a couple getting their rig ready and then hitting the road. About ten minutes long but the couple seems to know what they are doing, hope your first trip out the gate goes this smoothly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K25Cd3yZKU&NR=1

Let the good times roll, once you catch your breath.smile

It's funny how you can go from having all kinds of time to panic mode in no time at all. Congrats and good luck.

Wow, that is really awesome! God works in mysterious ways. I always say "everything in God's time, not mine." Of course, a little advance notice would have been nice!

I agree with Bill - sleep is overrated!!!

Good luck getting it all together. When things start getting stressful, just keep the end goal in sight - your dream of full timing becoming a reality!

How exciting!

While I'm sure the Class of 2014 wants to keep you, we'd also love to welcome you aboard to our year It sounds like all the stars aligned while you were taking a deep breath!

Our house sold so fast we had to move into an apartment so I can understand your "oh yay, oh crap" feelings at this time. Bet you have a couple rigs picked out already and are ready to have that proceeds check in hand so you can go get it!

Enjoy the ride

Congrats, Wendy & Rick! Sher & I were thinking we would be in the Class of 2014, too, but due to the house not selling are hoping for Class of 2015 now. We are telling ourselves to be content with whatever year it is (God's timing, right Cheryl?) since the housing market is pretty dead in South Jersey with several Atlantic City casinos closing in '14. We did the same as you and took the house off of the market for the Holidays, booked a Florida trip for the end of January… but our house hasn't sold yet. I guess we'll put it back on the market this week. Heehee. We are very encouraged reading about your upcoming adventures, though! We are going to the Spring Rally and hope to meet other '15ers and become better prepared for when (gotta stop saying "if") the house sells.

Yep!  We told ourselves "this year" in 2011, 2012 and 2013.  Finally happened in 2014!

Well we are back from Ricks retirement cruise. We had a great time. Now back to finish getting the house sold and finding our motorhome. The apprasial is fine and ont the way back we negotiated the fix-up stuff that the home inspector said needed fixng and so we close on the 10th of Feb.

We are looking at diesel pushers that are around 10-12 years old, because I want to redo the interior the way we want it and do not want to spend gads of money on it and can get by with an older model. We have narrowed it down right now to a Newmar Mountain Aire or Monoco Dynasty. Both have good bones and that is what we want.

Next 3 weeks is going to be crazy. Luckily a divorced gentleman is buying the house and wants all the furniture and anything household wise we do not want so we do not have to get rid of much.

We too sold our house furnished, what a stress reliever! No Craigslist ads, garage sales or storage. Just left everything and hit the road!
