Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Stackables vs Combo washer/dryer?

We are in the market for a washer/dryer for our new 5th wheel.  I had a 12 year old Splendid combo in our old RV.  I liked it except for the drying problems because of the very small drum.  I've bought the RV laundry book but haven't tried out the recommendations for drying jeans and shirts wrinkle free since I don't currently have a machine.

We have room for a stackable but it would mean giving up storage space.  On the other hand, I really don't want to deal with wrinkled clothes.  So...anyone who has experience with both the combo and stackables, what is your opinion?  Is it worth giving up the storage space and the extra expense to buy stackables or do both machines dry about the same and I've be better off with just the combo.

Was your old Slendid a vent free or vented?
We've had good luck with the vented model so far. Usually 2 small loads a week takes care of us. But for any of the big items like blankets we end up at the laundry. Thats where the stackable is nice.

It was vented but it had a smaller drum than the current combo models.  I'm wondering if the drum in the stackable dryer is larger enough to make a big difference in the way it dries.

We had the combo unit in our MH. This was "ok" when we weren't FT.
Now we are FT in a 5er and I have a separate washer and dryer.
100% better and I wouldn't be without it.

When we had a Splendid we could barely get 3 loads done in a day. Now we have side by side and we can do 3 loads in less than 4 hours and the the clothes are not nearly as wrinkled as in the Splendid plus the Splendid broke off. In 2 years we replaced 2 doors, 1 heater element, and had to go through all kinds of gyrations to clear lint clogs in the drum vent.

We have stackable W/D units and really like them.
We have a Maytag Washer and Sears Dryer (both made by Whirlpool), been using them for over 3 years with no problems.
We like these models because they have a larger drum than the typical RV units have.
Cycle time on each unit is about 1 hour.

We had the vented 2100XC and it did the job for us for almost 4 years. Wrinkles can be minimized, and routine maintenance will keep the lint problem at the drain port under control. We enjoyed the load'n'forget of the combo unit. Made it easy to do one load per day and keep loads small. Having the extra storage space available by not having a stackable was a big plus. And for the few problems we had I found Splendide support very good.

We have a combo Splendide which don't use much. I couldn't see having a stacking unit taking up much usable space.

We had the combo in our last MH and were happy enough with their performance but now that we have the stackable in our current MH we sure see the difference. It sure saves on time and seems to be less wrinkles.
