Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi! I'm Steve in Southern California and I am an RV boon-docking, solar charging enthusiast. I have a 2012 19' Escape Trailer and hope to meet others who enjoy getting away from it all outdoors like my wife and I do. Here is a picture of our trailer while camping at the beach during Christmas.

Thanks! I have 350 watts from the panels managed by a MorningStar TS-45 solar controller with 4 six volts deep cycle batteries. This helps support the Nova Kool DC refrigerator I installed for warm/hot weather camping. The refer pulls 4.2 amps on a 40% duty cycle so the batteries are back up to 15+ volts before noon. I also have a 2500 watt inverter with a manual transfer switch and all led lighting. It is important to be able to make a frozen margarita anywhere at anytime!
Greetings Steve, and welcome to the board. You'll find a lot of like minded folk here to bounce your ideas and questions off. Hopefully you'll share some of your expertise with us as well.
For instance, The perfect Margarita Recipe according to moi:
3 parts freshly squeezed lime juice (You could use the concentrate, but then I'd have to kill you.)
4 parts Cointreau (There are some decent clones if you can't get the best.)
8 parts Tequila of you choice (I prefer Cuervo Gold, but I have simple tastes.)
Mix chilled ingredients with ice (or blend with ice - not to much or you will dilute the taste - remember, we're not making a daiquiri) and serve in a salt rimmed (sparingly on the outside only) margarita glass.
Drink till you are silly (or sillier, as the case may be).
If you'd like to suggest an alternative, fire away.
BTW, sweet rig. Do you FT in it or are you planning to FT in the future (in that or a different rig)?
Chip

Hi Chip! Thanks for the complements. I essentially use your margarita recipe but like Grand Marnier over Cointreau...and yes, Cuervo Gold gives a margarita just the right taste. Many people use very expensive tequila for margaritas which I think is a waste and then you can't taste the tequila. Expensive tequila is for sipping. We camp as much as we can but not FT and don't plan to FT in the future. However, I'm always up for a spontaneous long trip...:) We like camping the California central coast area (Morro Bay), and Anza Borrego Desert and the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains (June Lake, Silver Lake, Gem Lake, Twin Lakes, etc). We also try to fish wherever we go, fly fishing the surf last week, trout fishing the Sierras, Striped Bass in the Colorado River, etc. We often bring a 17' canoe with us. At Silver Lake we hike up to the alpine lakes in the Sierra Mountains to fish brook trout and catch-and-release goldens...conventional and fly fishing. We selected the Escape 19' because it is one piece construction and very light (3700 lbs fully loaded) so we can pull it off-road and go where we want. We had it custom built for us with loads of options and had it delivered to our home in Southern CA from BC Canada. Then I added a lot more solar and electrical options. I also replaced the stock evaporative propane refer with a DC motorized unit, better for hot climate. We were planning on camping in the desert today but a northern storm rolled in yesterday so we are currently stuck at home.
Here are a few more pics;
You can tell that my wife has her priorities in order!
Here I am making margaritas on demand...just like we discussed..
Here we are camping at Lake Diaz...good fishing!..just one stop going north to Silver Lake.

I respectfully disagree with your Margo recipe however you will have to wait 'till we cross paths.
We own an bar in Mexico and make many of them every day.
MMm, fishing, margaritas, Sierra Nevada lakes!! I used to live in Placerville, CA. My favorite area is still the Sierras (Hope Valley) off Hwy88. Great kayaking, hiking, fishing!
Welcome to the group! I'll have to try all the variations listed of margaritas and get back to you
Sir Fox, I'll pick up your gauntlet and accept your challenge. Well it seems that a careful statistical analysis is appropriate, with appropriate sized representative samples of each recipe being consumed. The sacrifices I make for science! May the best recipe (or the last man standing) win. ;)
This is how we roll:
This was taken at Big Bend, NP where we visit every few years. Right outside the park, in Terlingua there is a cantina called the Starlight Theater that looks like a saloon out of the old west. At happy hour they serve a $2 margarita. Our first time there we bellied up to the bar and ordered a couple, however I asked the barkeep not to put any simple syrup, agave, etc. in ours as we don't like them sweet. The lanky bartender looked almost indignant at us as he straightned up to his full frame, squared his shoulders an replied, "Sir, you're in Texas now!" He then proceeded to make us the best cheap margarita we've ever had. No, at that price they can't afford to use top shelf tequila, and triple sec was substituted for the more expensive orange liquors, but son...God, I love Texas! We now make the pilgrimage there for at least one cheap, yet delicious meal of $1 tacos and $2 margaritas every time we visit the area.
Hotfishtacos, if you catch a fish or two maybe we can also enjoy some nice fresh ceviche (did I mention I'm a sushi chef?) with our margaritas, or perhaps your namesake.
Now we just need to get together.
Chip
