Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Why Do They Change

I just went on rvparkreviews.com and they changed the website.  I hate it....it is user unfriendly, ads pop into the middle of details about campgrounds, the layout of the "Nearby Cities" is confusing....etc.

It was such a good and user friendly website.  What happened to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

A-men! That makes two of us. Thought it was just a fluke... or hallucinations.  I hope they are listening!!

Just tried the site again this morning and it seems to be down. I got this message: "Error in exception handler."

I'm don't really like the new site as well as the old. But things do change, just like all products we use. Just have to get used to how they work.

The biggest issue I have is the slower loading. Probably because of more graphics & images and ads. We spend a lot of time with marginal cell signal so the bigger the data transfer the more aggravating these sites are.

Seems to me that of all of the things they wouldn't want to do is make it harder for RVers to use, but when you put in all of the flashy ads, it makes it longer to download when cell service is on the iffy side - longer to download means I'll probably just move on to something else. Another case of the people who design the web site not really understanding anything about the people they are trying to attract.

Did manage to get a review posted yesterday, but notice that the site is down this morning.

I did get a response from RV Parks Review to my complaint I posted on their website. They had to make the change because the old arrangement was having lots of problems.

They are looking into fixing the ads popping up in the middle of the campground information. They asked for patience while they worked out the bugs.

I'm sure this new design will grow on me with use. The pop up ads in the middle of the screen have to go though.

Along with marginal cell or data service, longer page loads due to "flashy ads" adds to data consumption... If I had to use up all my data just to get to the info I wanted then I'd stop using that site.  Exactly opposite to what they wanted. BUt then it's all about click thru and paid clicks these days anyway.

Remember in the old days, we complained about 7 minutes per hour of commercials on TV, then it went to 10 then 13.  Each time is was regulations that changed at the behest of the advertisers. Then the internet came along and at first there were no commercials(ads). Well look where we are now... Seems that to get a 30 sec video news item you have to go through near a minute of advertising. The internet is the wild west of content vs paid advertising. They win, we lose this battle.

Putting soap box away now.

Brian

Wow, can you say painfully slow? Not sure what they did but they certainly aren't making it easy to submit a review. Before it was all on one screen, now you have to click through multiple screens and each one takes a looooong time to load. Definitely not data user friendly. It took over 20 minutes to submit 3 reviews and one had to be submitted twice because their website timed out.

Hope they fix this, luckily I don't need it for searching campsites for the next couple of months as our plans are pretty well in hand.

I tried to post a review last night and the new system wasn't very user friendly. I sent them a complaint but haven't heard anything in reply. Sad because I have been using RV Park Reviews for years.

Does anyone else use Trip Advisor or RVillage?

The RVparkreviews site seems to be working better but the middle of the page ads still get in the way. I'm getting to understand the new layout but still liked the old much better.

I see this as an on-going trend on the 'net now: less content in exchange for prettier interface. I have to do a lot more scrolling on the rvparkreviews site now to get the same information I could get before on one page.

Use AdBlocker and then you don't see the ads.
