Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Shreveport LA

We will be heading south and west next week from NC working our way to Palm Springs. Thinking about stopping around Shreveport LA for a few days. Any recommendations on rv parks within about a 20 mile radius? We will be traveling on I 20.

You can stay at the casinos, but it's parking lot camping. Not my idea of nice but a lot of people do it. There's also Caddo Lake S.P., just over the border in TX.

It's really early for the weather the mountains got this past weekend. Its usually a mininum of late December for the Ashville area to get snow. Stay warm!

If you were retired military, you could stay at the base.

Diamond Jack's Casino has full hookups and just a block off of I-20.

FYI Don't bother trying to stay at a military base in this country even if you did serve in the military for four years including in the war zone, ie Vietnam. Even though you pay for it with your taxes only retired and disabled are allowed to take advantage of those RV Parks.

Only retired and disabled military can use many of the privileges of active military, including medical and subsidized food (commissary) in addition to the campgrounds. If you don't stay in for 20 years, that is the way it works. I don't have those privileges, but my mother does. She does because my father stayed in and made the military his career.

One issue with the FamCamps is that the active duty TDY people have discovered the RV world. So instead of staying in base barracks or housing, many bring their RV and family with them if their staying 2-12 months. But once again the issue of the "Permanent" folks take all the good spaces arises, along with the fact that there are very limited number of sites at most camps. I do know of several threads on different forums that the folks seem to think that just because they are a 20yr retired colonel that that gives you priority sites over the 30yr retired sergeant major.

That can be so true.  Oddly, here at Mountaindale Cabins and RV Resorts, we have at least 3 "long-term" RV'ers that are on active duty with the U.S. Army, even though the Fort Carson FamCamp is less than 10 miles from here.  The Fort Carson FamCamp is called the Turkey Creek Recreation Area and is closer to the base entrances than Mountaindale.  I guess the ones here prefer being within the Pine trees.

I am also interested in places to stay around Shreveport, since we have friends to visit there on our way West in spring. Looking at RVParkReviews.com, the casino campground looks like the best choice for a big rig.
