Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Fantastic fan - Eww!

Ok, I made the mistake of looking up at the fantastic fan in my entranceway the other day and to my horror, noticed there were lots of dead bugs (flies mostly) in there.  I have no clue how they got there; I can only surmise that they snuck in when the fan was open and on and died in the attempt.  They are lying on the screen below the blades.

Question is how do I remove them?  As far as I know, the only way to open the vent cover is by turning the fan on, and if the fan is on, I can't get below the blades to wipe it clean without either sawing off my hand or breaking the spinning blades.  I don't think there's a way to remove the screen from the inside either.

Any suggestions other than just not looking up again? :)

Simple solution Cheryl!!!!..................

Have Mitch Do it!!!!!!!........or at least put it on his "Honey Doo List" !!!!!!!!!!....(If he's like most of us ,this could be done in under 6 month's)

If you look at the metal frame around the screen on the inside should be a finger hold that you can pull down on, removing the screen and dumping the bugs all over the floor....

And Mike... don't be shortening the time frame.... I usually go at least 9 months before I say that I'll have to go to Lowes or Home Depot to get whatever I need to fix the issue...  Then have another 2-3 months before actually completing the task.

Cindi says, ..."a half to a quarter the space to tend to, half to a quarter the time to fix something"...nocry  Not sure I agree with that logic, Fixin' stuff still requires a period to think about other stuff, do other things and when it gets to be a an issue at least 50% of the time during a "maintenance discussion"biggrinbiggrin then it will take an appropriate amount of planning  and then implementation time to correct the offending item. The snap off screens are not on all Fantastic Fans, some require removing screws. You don't want a screw loose. You can also put the fan up without it spinning and get on the roof with a vacuum.

Ours has a knob that we can turn.  Without that you would have to pull the fuse once the lid was up.

Cjerylrv- Do you have a wall switch for the fan or are the controls on the fan itself. On ours, there is a wall switch that has turns the fan itself on and of and a rocker switch that raises and lowers the cover. If you leave the main switch in the on position, the fan starts running when you raise the lid.

Mine has the controls on the wall and when turned on, it opens the lid (closes it when the fan is turned off). I noticed that there is also a knob on fan itself which has a manual selection. I'm hoping that the manual on the knob is different from the manual setting on the control panel and might actually allow us to open the lid without turning on the fan.

We don’t have a Fantastic Fan, but when we find dead bugs on our screens, we just open the cover and turn the fan on high. Eventually the bugs will get sucked up and out. An occasional “finger flicking” on the screen of the stubborn ones is sometimes needed.

The black 'x' knob is for manually opening the vent cover. The fuse will insure the fan will not start. Just grab the knob & give it a tug downward and you should be able to turn the cover open. Push the knob towards the sky to get it opening electrically again. The knob does not move up or down very far, a 1/4" or less.

Or

There should be Phillips head screws (4) that can be removed and the lower cover will come down into the trailer for screen washing and bug removal.

Well, I'll be "Jiggered."  We've had our Mobile Suites for 4 years now, and I think this is the first time since we joined any forums (6 years ago) that someone explained that the vent opening knob could be pulled down to operate it manually.

Old dogs CAN learn new tricks.

Thanks to Bob and Lindy.

Another tip I heard was to open the vent and then take a blow dryer and blow the bugs up and out.
