Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Impulse buyers---what makes you haul out your wallet?

I have an idea for an impulse item to sell at rv parks and truck stops.

Retail it will sell for under 2$ if I can manage it, after buying in bulk, repackaging and distribution.

(While this remains to be seen, I am fairly certain I can get this into stores for under 5$ retail no matter what, though I am hoping for much less.)

It weighs next to nothing and fits in a back pocket, is a 'feel good' and 'green' product, with zero care and feeding and the packaging is easily recycled.

 

So if you are a nature lover with 2-5 bucks to spend on something which makes you feel good about your contribution, 

please tell me---- what makes you reach for your change purse or visa? 

 

 

btw, if it proves popular I will be able to hire people to repackage the product and hope to tap into the vast resource of seniors and disabled people in this country who need to augment their incomes.

For me, nowadays I've conditioned myself to ask 2 questions: 1) do I REALLY, REALLY need it, and 2) where will I put it? Although I admit we are suckers for unusual foods and booze. For example, while in SC, I just had to buy a 1 oz package of specialty tea and 2 oz of a unique spice blend, as well as a jar of moonshine apple cider!

Can you be more specific about the type of product you plan to sell? It'd be easier to respond as to whether it would be an impulse item for me.

it's good for our environment, does not need to be stored as it can be used right away--even while driving down the road. or it can sit in a drawer for years and still be ok to use.

no special skills needed, just the urge to make our world a little better off.

is that enough detail?

Not really enough info for me to make a decision, although I'm sure the price point wouldn't have me thinking too hard about it. It would come down to whether I really had a need to use it, and not knowing what it is, I can't answer that question.

If it's in a store. and it's under $5.. and if there is even a chance I will use it rving.. I will buy it.. Don't care about the nature thing, or the green thing.. Everything out there uses that to try a snag a customer..

I think you have some stiff competition.. though.. Many time I bought stuff at truck stops.. and walmart. Haven't hit a campworld yet..non here.. but that will be several hundreds.. Somewhere along the line, though.. buying will stop for me.... I hope..lol

"Need"? That is sort of what it comes down to. I have heard that if you are going to start a business, you find a "need" and fill it. I buy very little on impulse and will buy less when we leave our S/B. Maybe a rain hat during the monsoons? I read once that planning to sell to the RVing community, those like me with limited funds and space, isn't the best idea. Flea markets and such would probably be a better venue since it appears from what I have seen that people will buy just about anything there.

Small Items for the RV market seem to have to have"Necessity"written all over it or be that one item in the gotta have niche.

moving product is tough , if you have a good one it wont be long before its seen and competition gouges the price or moves it to china to mass produce!



your answer: quality..Eye catching display!!......fast marketing disbursement and most of all with new product , start with close to the lowest price point and make your money by product volume.....doing it this way will keep the competition at bay!!

If it was something we felt we would really use, a $5 or less price point wouldn't be an issue. The biggest choices would be do we need it, do we have room for it, will it replace anything else we have?
