Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Favorite apps for monitoring fires, evacuations, etc??

Hi All,

We've been using the Weather Underground map and watching the local news as a fire continues to burn NE of us in the Sierra Nevadas.  Tonight we were watching the huge cloud caused by the fire turn colors during the sunset hours.  Beautiful in an unreal kind of way, but still somewhat scary to see even though I know it's miles away.

Are there other apps out there that give fire updates that we should be aware of?

One site I will share when we were planning recent family visit in Idaho, is AIRNow, http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.main.  We were able to enter a zip code and make sure a family member with COPD would not be impacted by fires burning or to make alternate plans as necessary.

Thanks!

I use Pro Weather Alert, but I'm not sure if it alerts for smoke. It has the ability to add key words, so added smoke. It's real good for weather alerts and tracks your location so it alerts for the area you are in. You can also add locations if you want to get alerts for other areas, such as Mom's house or something.

I use a home patrol scanner. Punch in your zipcode and you get everything and it can be put in weather alert mode. Will sound off alarm if there in a emergency announcement..

A bit pricey at around 500. But if like listening to whats going on around you.. and don't want to manually program the channels everytime to move.. This is the cats meow..

I also have tornado alert ap on my note3 phone..

I have an iPhone. I did a search in the app store for alerts and came up with several free apps.  One was for hurricanes, others for various situations including tornadoes, flash floods, and extreme conditions. Didn't notice any for wildfires, but I'd bet it's there as well. Several were for personal alerts -- urgent response kind of thing.  All were free. Do a search of your app store -- Android or Apple -- and see what they have.
