Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We will be in the Ft Myers area mid-November thru the end of May for work. I am looking for suggestions for RV parks in that area. I have done a search and came up with a few from the forum, but they were state parks or COE which won't work for us because of our length of stay. I would welcome any suggestions, especially if you have personally stayed in any campgrounds. We have a reservation at Upriver RV Resort in North Ft Myers on the Caloosahatchee River, but it is definitely scary making a reservation sight unseen. Thanks!!
Jo

We stayed at Woodsmoke (fires are not allowed there?). We stayed in the pull thrus which were really nice but its not cheap. Woodsmoke is south of Ft Myers proper. The back ins seemed a touch tight for us. Its right on the Tamiami highway.
I don't know if you looked UpRiver up on RVParkReviews.com, but all the reviews are good there, they are all from 2013 - not sure what that means, if anything
Kelly, UpRiver is where we have a reservation :) I did look at all the reviews, I don't know why there aren't any from 2014 for that park. It is right on the river, which would be nice. There are a few parks in that area that look nice and have good reviews. We don't want to be right next to I-75 or right on route 41 (Tamiami Trail) because the traffic would be noisy, and we like the idea of being on the water (but the places on the Gulf are super-expensive!). So we will see--we are always willing to compromise. It would be nice to hear from someone who has stayed at UpRiver (or any of the other places near there) to get first-hand testimonial. There are lots of parks a little further south, but Ben will be commuting to Lee Memorial Hospital so we are hoping to minimize the drive :) --Thanks!!

I don't know how far the noise will carry, but be aware the campground you have chosen is only 1.5 miles west of Interstate 75.
It is a decent campground.
We lived about the same distance but really only heard the interstate when the weather was right, for some reason. I am not a sound expert.
Lee Memorial Health system has more than campus and is spread out. Is Ben working "downtown" or at the original hospital, right off US 41?

Joe & Debbie, they haven't told us yet which location Ben will be working at, but I think the campgrounds we are looking into would be convenient to both hospitals. Thanks for letting me know that UpRiver is only 1.5 miles from I-75. Some of the others are even closer.
Since we will arrive mid-November, before the busiest months of the season, we will probably drive around and check out some others while we stay initially at UpRiver. If we like it we'll stay there, but if not we will try to move before they all get too busy.

Noise levels will vary, depending on what is between your location and the source. If there are a lot of trees in the area, that will do a lot to dampen the sounds, even at 1 1/2 miles. We lived in one place that was 1 mile away, and the main times we heard the traffic was when the wind "blew it our way."
On the other hand, we lived within 100 yards of an interstate in Oklahoma City for three years and can say that one "gets use to it" and tunes it out.
If you do have issues with the noise, get one of those "noise generators" that sounds like the surf or whatever, or one can run an oscillating fan to drown out the noise,
Terry
