Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I am wondering if Heartland Big Country and Big Horn models can be upgraded to include 8,000 axles and 17.5 tires? There are a couple of floor plans that we like, but when checking the option list I can't find those upgrades. The Landmark models do list the axle/tire upgrades. We are definitely leaning toward DRV (used) but I don't want to rule anything out yet!
I had a Bighorn built this past winter(Dec - Jan) and I was able to order it with 8,000 axles and G rated tires. H rated tires that you speak of were not a option. Something you could do on your own, of course, and maybe sell back to the dealer. I also had the opportunity to order with disc brakes like on the Landmarks but Heartland discontinued after just two units due to slowing the line and extra manpower. Just lucky I guess. Hope you get additional answers at the Heartland Owners Forum. Curt

It would not be legal - that's right, not legal - for Heartland to install 3750# tires on 8000# axles without derating them to a GAWR of 7500# or less. You should check and see what the certification label has on it. If the certification label is not correct you can ask Heartland to send you a new one. In fact you can demand they send a new one because it's against federal regulations for them to sell the trailer with an incorrect certification label.

The used DRV would be a wise choice. We just went with a 2009 Select Suites and nothing else comes close. We traded a 2013 Avalanche and their is no comparison.
We, before the Teton, owned a DRV. We wanted a larger unit and researched most everything on market. Looked very hard at Hearthland and found them to be better than most in their price range. But they were a large step down from the DRV. Had we not had the DRV we may have bought a Landmark. Just too big a step down. Found this Teton and never looked back. It is a step up from DRV.
