Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I was talking to a motor home owner here in the park where we are currently camping and he said that he had a shop connect his air brakes from his Newmar MH to his Dodge Ram pickup. He says that he doesn't need an auxiliary brake controller because hsi air brakes apply the hydraulic brakes on his toad. Has anyone every heard of this or are you using it?

There are ways to add auxiliary braking to the toad that use only an air line from the motorhome. But they are still auxiliary braking systems and do not convert the toad to air brakes. http://m-gengineering.com/ and http://www.smibrake.com/air-force-one.html are two well known examples. What the owners think was done and reality are not always the same.

Yep. Had the M&G system on our Jeep Wrangler. Air line from coach hooked to the Jeep for progressive brake. Very clean setup. Never gave us any problem.

I used the SMI product on my Jeep. It worked great.

That has to kill the factory warranty on the toad ?.. If there is one..
There is a federal law that says that add ons are OK and do not void warranties for vehicles.
Really? What Law is that? Theres all kinds of stuff I want to do on my Ram..
I wanted to do a exhaust on the 08 ford.. ford said it would void the warranty.. Power adder programmer too..
That can't be right.. I can change out factory brake boosters and master cylinders and the manf will not void warranties?
Wow .. I found it.. had no idea.. although, I have been told it some things do and will void warranty.. I see now, all they need to do is PROVE your part caused the issue.. THEN you get declined for warranty..
Time to get in shopping mode for my RAM.. This is huge.. Lets see.. exhaust, tubo kit, Power programmer, Blower, NOS , .. SWEET !

All they have to do is SAY your part caused the issue and decline the warranty. Their engineers will decide. Then YOU have to prove to them it did not! Lawyers will be involved and your truck will be stuck in limbo for a long time. Adding power products to a truck under warranty is called RUSSIAN ROULETTE but the dealer and mfg. has five cartridges in the gun at your head.
I hear ya man.. I was joking back back there.. I havn't asked on my RAM, But I did ask the dealer on my Ford F250.. They said almost ANY performance part will void the warranty.I just wanted a power programmer to increase fuel milage.. They said no.. and they said they will know if I had it on there. I'm betting even though the law is on them to prove your part failed.. It's not.. as they will decline service, and like you said, then you will have to prove it didn't cause the issue.. most likely in court. Not sure I RAM.. but just went through a warranty thing with Ford.. Broke since new.. they bandaided it til it hit 60k.. then said take a walk.. see you in court.. Nice .. I'd have burned the truck right there at the dealer ship, if I didn't the deposit.. drove it around the corner to RAM.
So I know all dealers don't want to do anything for free, and will look for a way out.
I would not install anything to potentially void the warranty. I just paid $1600 to extend bumper to bumper to 100k.. It's my tow truck, and my only transportation.. period.
We almost bought myself a Rolex couple days ago.. almost pulled the trigger.. had the cash on me too.. But thought .. maybe I should by a cool convertible , have the wife drive it behind me when we move spots. Since I will be at campground, maybe a month at a time.. sooooooo.. I'm waiting on everything.. till I get out there, and up and running. Then we'll see.
It's good to know this law is out there.. Been around automotive all my life, and never knew.. lol It's amazing what you learn on here...

We went from talking about air brakes to power upgrades. Amazing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act will tell you about the law. The important piece here is 'Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty.[7] This is commonly referred to as the "tie-in sales" provisions,[8] and is frequently mentioned in the context of third-party computer parts, such as memory and hard drives.' The law was to stop companies like Ford and GM from forcing you to buy everything from them, including floor mats, oil and light bulbs. Power upgrades do mess with the internals and programming of engines, so it is easy for the manufacturer to show they made a difference. Adding something straightforward to the brakes or hardware to make a car towable, those are harder to "prove" will cause problems. Especially something where the installation can be removed, which includes most auxiliary braking systems.

I asked cause it look like on one of the systems above, it replaced the master cyclinder with something totally different than what came with it.. like a performance part.. Not a repair replacement..
I did know you can repair you vehicle with non oem parts..
Thanks again..
