Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are currently camped in a state park and for the second morning in a row at 0'dark thirty I was awakened with the sound of critters playing on the roof. Sheesh, what were they doing, playing ping pong or something????
Not the most pleasant way to be awakened and once the racket starts it wakes up Tazzy Kat who then thinks she needs to go investigate the noise. Dale, bless his heart, seems to have the ability to sleep right through it so I'm left with the pacing kitty and becoming sleep deprived.
Any advice? No way was I going to climb the ladder and yell at them this morning at 4:30 AM, especially not in the rain that we had this morning.
If you are going to be in one place for awhile you could place something that will move in a low breeze..Boaters use a variety of streamers and pinwheels to keep birds off there boats...should work with squirrels also..
When we were in Oklahoma City, and before they came out and trimmed the trees at the back of the coach to get them out of the wires, we'd have a squirrel (or maybe two) that would jump from a tree in the back and run across the top of the trailer and jump into the tree to the front left of the coach.
Sadly, even the big tree in the front was taken out, so no more humorous romps across the roof.
You might check in sporting goods places like Bass Pro and Academy and see if you could get one of those fake owls and attach it to the top of your ladder.
Just a thought.

You could always buy some fox urine at a feed store and pour some of that around the perimeter of your trailer roof...I have never used it and cannot vouch for it's abilities.

Like Bill we have some black birds that seem to find our roof makes a great runway. They land then taxi over (hop, hop, hop) to the water stream coming out of they A/C. Fill up their tank, taxi back out to the runway and they're off....
We laugh everytime we hear them but luckily they don't start until the afternoon.
I just used a product called Kritter Ridder from Home Depot to keep feral cats from an area. It works for squirrels and other critters. The product is made up of sand and different types of pepper. I think the streamer idea would be my first choice to try. Old CDs/DVDs work well if you can hang them where the will move with a breeze.

If the critters are small enough to be afraid of an owl, there are owl statues that you can attach up on your roof that may scare them away. That's what we've done here to keep the birds from pecking on our roof. Kev attached it to the top of the ladder. Here's a link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dalen-Great-Horned-Owl/16213264
I think we've determined that Bill's suggestion is correct for this campground, it's the crows that are waking Tazzy Kat and myself up, seems to be the most likely scenario. Sitting outside this evening all 3 of us kept watching them.
Sigh, 2 more nights and then we're headed east, just hoping for a couple of decent nights of sleep, especially tomorrow since I promised I would drive the middle shift of the day which means right after lunch.
Made a quick trip out to the camper and a squirrel I am guessing had launched itself at the bird feeder (attached to the window) and knocked it to the ground. I think the longer you stay in a spot the more of an issue these types of things are. The critters have definitely got more brazen since we've been in our spot for several weeks now. On the one hand I feel good we've blended into nature on the other chipmunk running into the camper not a good thing :)
You might want to consider hooking up and moving the RV out then back in. I know it's a major pain but even moving a little might reset the clock :)
