Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are young, raising 2 tweens. And beyond sick of the "rat race" .. we are tired of working so hard all week long to have a two day weekend that is never long enough, we are tired of watching the kids grow up and miss out on so much of their lives, just because our whole lives up to this point we were told that was the American dream... Our families think we are crazy, leaving such solid jobs of working 50 hours a week... but....
We have been planning and working our way up to full timing for the last six years. We are finally
at a point now, where the house is for sale, the man of the house is down to part time work so he has time to go through all our "crap"
sell it, do dump runs, and keep the house clean for showings.
We just sold the couch two nights ago. It is really sinking in for all of us. The kids are beyond excited about going full time.
We have always been avid outdoorsy people, camping, boating, quad-ding. Now every night we are all dreaming about life on the road.
Every day at dinner we ask questions, and think out loud...how are the cats going to do? What will homeschooling be like...what kind of people will we meet.... so many questions... and yet through it all we have very few fears..
All of the forums we read and blogs have eased most of our tensions, and fears. The internet has become the place we turn when we just really don't know. Someone else has already lived through and and posted about it somewhere.. "Google it"" !!
Send some positive energy our way, that we get an offer on the house soon, so we can finally make this dream a reality

2 weeks left, as long as the escrow gods keep smiling down on us. ending one long, important chapter, beginning one new exciting story.
First of all, welcome to the RV Dreams forums. At one point or another, most of the folks here were at about the same point that you are in your process. Thus, this is a good source of information with both RV's and the RV lifestyle. Feel free to ask questions, and there are no dumb questions.
You've not mentioned whether you already have an RV, so if you don't, have you planned for where to live until you get one for your family? If you area still looking, you can get a lot of information here from the forum participants.
Good luck with it all.
Terry

I know what you mean, finding myself in a similar position that you're in except we're empty nesters (well we do have one little bird that we will be taking with us - a real one, a sun conure). I too work a lot, about 70 hrs 6 days/wk (Aren't salaries great!). The saving grace about my job is that I get to drive a bunch, across several states, giving me time to plan for our future life and daydream about our future rig. Just today (while driving almost 300 miles) I had time to think about building a narrow battery box that would hang outside and below our planned FT TT, in front of the wheels, like I see tool and binder boxes mounted on 18 wheeler trailers, but smaller and narrower (perhaps one on each side with 2 golf cart batteries in each). It would be an aerodynamic design with a rounded front, to ease the airflow around the tires too.
The advantage would be:
1. The weight would be carried low, for a lower center of gravity and close to the axles by the center of mass (better handling and less bounce) reducing tongue weight too.
2. They would vent to the outside with no danger of explosive gas build-up and would be easy to get to for maintenance.
3. They would ease the airflow around the tires, slightly reducing drag.
4. They wouldn't take up any inside space, giving me a little more inside storage room.
I watch passing 18 wheelers with aerodynamic tail cones and wind deflectors between the cab and trailer and it gets me daydreaming about mods I can add to accomplish similar results. Yes, I sometimes dream about FTing at night too, waking up with ideas to be put on paper lest I forget.
Sharing my crazy ideas with like minded folks (well maybe not as crazy, but with similar aspirations and lots more real world experience) is truly a blessing in my life, as well as a great stress reliever. It gives me hope for a brighter future too.

Welcome to the forum and the "dream." You are doing the right thing by homeschooling the kids. They can travel to national parks and other wonders of this country and see it in person, instead of a picture in a book.
What a great opportunity for them, and you!
