Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Austin or San Antonio RV Parks near hiking and biking

Hi There! we are looking to be in this area mid-November through mid-December. We really enjoy hiking and biking and are wondering if any of you have some suggestions on RV parks that would have these activities nearby or even better, right out of the park. Also does anyone know of an app that may list these across the country? Biking is my preferred mode of transportation once we are settled.

Austin is my home town.. we return there often :)

Pecan Grove RV Park is right near downtown, and backs up to the Lady Bird Johnson hike & bike trail around the lake. An incredible fitness trail that is 12 miles long. The park also gives you access to all that is awesome about Austin - Zilker Park, walking distance to downtown, Chuy's happy hour buffet and several other dining places right nearby. Catch this gem before it closes and becomes a condo building, it's an old school charming park that will be sad to see close eventually.

And we also love McKinney Falls State Park, which is still in Austin but a bit more 'out there'. They have trails within the park too. Probably not ideal for commuting to things outside the park by bike however, but a beautiful 'in nature' feel while still being close to yummy Tex-Mex and BBQ.

As far as apps.. we use Allstays and RV Parking mainly for finding parks. None of them specifically rate on biking access, but sometimes reading reviews helps in the research process.

Thanks so much for the info. Pecan Grove sounds exactly what we are looking for. My son and daughter have both spent time in Austin on business, and said it would be a place I would love. So off I go, after several weeks enjoying fall in the great smoky mts. I absolutely love your blog and as a new fulltimer it has been a wonderful resource, as is this wonderful forum. RV folks are the BEST-Sheryle

my rv is in good condition, but it's a 1999, pecan grove told me that my rv was "unacceptable" and that it is time for me to upgrade. these words ring over and over in my head... i believe she could have chosen a better way to relay their age-ist rules to me...

If you head to San Antonio, Travelers World is right next to the bike trail and the trail will take you to most of the missions, and to downtown. They are also on the bus route. No driving necessary.
