Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Shenendoah valley RV park recommendations - along 81?

Trying to select a park along 81 in Pennsylvania between Harrisburg & Wilkes-Barre?

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Sherry

Sherry,

This may not help you. The Shenandoah is not that far up 81 it's in VA. There are two in the park at the Northern end that I'm familiar with. Mathews Arm and Big Meadows. Both are good, but I like Big Meadows best. Big Meadows is also easier to get in and out of. In the evening you can pull up a chair along the parkway and watch the wildlife, or star gaze. A lot of people bring their telescopes and set up there and watch whatever star event is happening. Very little light pollution if any. You can buy  a Senior's Pass for $20 at the gate good for a lifetime of free entrance to any National Park and 50% off lodging. They fill up fast so you need to make a reservation soon. Shenandoah NP

From their website:

RV Information
Although Shenandoah National Park doesn't have a campground that is just for RVs, it does have three campgrounds that will accommodate large RVs. Mathews Arm, Big Meadows and Loft Mountain campgrounds all have pull-through and deep back-in sites which most of the time can even handle an RV with a tow vehicle. Although we do not offer hookups, the campgrounds do have potable water and dump stations. (with the exception of Lewis Mountain Campground).

Gene and Eileen,

Duh, about Shenandoah! What was I thinking? Big meadows sounds perfect! Thanks so much, now to try to get a reservation. Does the Senior's Pass discount to RV stays? We've had our cards for a looooong time. 😛 Even if not that is a very reasonable rate says she coming out of NH, NY and CT!

Whoops, dry camping only there which we're not equipped for but it still sounds lovely.
Thanks again for your reply.

There are campgrounds and RV Parks all around the Shenandoah Park. I haven't been in any so can't help with that.

Good luck!

We stayed in a KOA in Luray that was ok. In fact the only KOA we have stayed at. Not sure if that's close to where you are looking at.

We SCORED! Creekside RV Park in Edinburg, VA. They gave us the "Honeymoon Suite" with it own private deck overlooking a brook with mini-falls and quiet as can be. Sweetest 80 or 90 yr old owner confounding his son/mgr ? with changing sites but he took a liking to us I guess.

Plus it's a back in and I DID IT MYSELF we'll with Jesse guidance, of course, but I got the behemoth in there!

Whoo hoo my first (successful) back in!
