Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Longarm in toy hauler

This falls under the "dreams" category as we don't have any means to camp at the moment!  But I do own a longarm, and got to thinking that if we got a toy hauler and fit it out to carry my longarm, I could take work while at a site, and finish it there before I leave. Would I get any business?  I do edge to edge work as well as custom, and have a good eye for it; I have won some prizes. I am looking for honest feedback on whether you think you would use such a service if it was available.

Lisa,

First of all, welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  You will find this to be a good source of information, so feel free to ask about the RV's and the RV'ing lifestyle.

As for using your quilting machine (I'm presuming that you mean quilting), I don't know what kind of business you would get in RV parks as interested customers might be planning to leave prior to your finishing their quilt.  On the other hand, if you were attending craft shows or flea markets, you might find a market in those areas.  Then, with that as a more stable business, the selling to park occupants might work out for you.

Good luck with your planning and research.  Oh, and incidentally, I'm speculating as to the possibilities of you working with  the craft shows and flea markets.  I have no idea if that is an interest for you or not, nor whether the market is actually there.  There are others here on the forums that do deal with some of those venues, so they may be able to give you a better idea of the markets.

Considering the expense of many of the sewing and embroidery machines these days, I highly recommend that your RV definitely have a good system for electrical protection such as the Progressive Industries products.  Neither high or low voltage sources are good for those machines.

I was told long arms require being perfectly level and are easy to knock off level.

You will need to carry some examples of your work, but many quilters are looking for someone to do the long arm quilting while traveling. So, you should have customers if they know you are around and trust you to handle their babies. Enough customers, I can't say.
