Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Cleaning stainless steel appliances

I've never had stainless steel appliances in my S&B home.   I now have a SS refrigerator/freezer, microwave/convection oven and sink.  It seems that no matter how many times I clean them, they keep getting dirty.  I've been using Windex that says it's good for SS with a microfiber cloth.  It cleans nicely - until I turn my back and it's like fingerprints just appear out of nowhere!

Olive oil doesn't make it greasy?

Try WD-40. That's what I use in the MS and the s&b.

Hope this helps some.

Use a glass cleaner, and if it leaves a few streaks behind then wipe it down with rubbing alcohol.

Two solutions... Vaseline on your glasses, you won't notice the smudges or tequila, you won't care.

ours is directly in the door. Our fingerprints are the first thing you see.

Lots of home remedies..

I just use the stuff marked" stainless steel cleaner" .. Buy it anywhere, lowes, home depot..... works and looks great. We use it on all the restaurant equipment we sell. Sometime needs a degreasing.. we like purple muscle stuff .. use that first..

I use Pledge (yellow or orange can) with a micro fiber cloth on stainless steel, stove top, counter tops, mirrors, tile table top. Seriously, works great on everything. Not greasy like you'd think. Microfiber cloth is a necessity! Smells wonderful too .

Oh yeah, it still works well on wood furniture!

Can't wait to have the reduced surfaces that need cleaning of any kind!!!!!!

OK, we're with Cheryl on this, first year with stainless steel. We found a mixture of rubbing alcohol and vinegar works well for almost everything except the inside of the microwave. Tried several things and while I know it's "clean" it doesn't look clean. We also bought used so not sure why, but the inside, especially the top, always looks spotted no matter what remedies I try.

Any suggestions?

I use baking soda on the inside of the microwave.
I use nothing but water and a soft cloth on the refrigerator though. I'm not sure its really stainless steel because magnets stick to it.

Sue,

If it "looks" like stainless steel but magnets stick to it, your fridge may be a "stainless platinum."  The Samsung residential fridge that we put in to replace the RV fridge is stainless platinum and is easy to clean and magnets work quite well.  Jo loves it.  So do I because it lets us store more AND keep ice cream really cold.

Windex is probably not the best since it can wear down the thin chromium layer that stainless steel has on the outside. Use water and soft cloth or sponge (dish soap if you have to) and make sure you wipe along the grain. Then if you want to, use some stainless steel cleaner to give it a once over for some polish and to get rid of the finger prints. Here is a good guide with more cleaning and care tips- https://www.foodservicesuperstore.com/blog/how-to-clean-stainless-steel-in-the-restaurant/

Mineral spirits and baby oil..(mineral oil)........use spirits to thin the oil down , works well.......used it for years in the Commercial and domestic appliance industry............if you read the mix on a can of stainless cleaner you will see its the same.......always kept a facecloth with it on it in a ziplock in my tool bag.........customers always called me later asking how did you do that.....and where can I get some !!!!
