Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

I don't need no stinking brakes or Lippert, off my Christmas list

In an earlier post I mentioned that there were problems with the brakes on my el cheapo deluxe RV. The saga continues. I had a local RV repair service, who has worked with Lippert on warranty issues before, take a look at my brakes. After pulling the left rear wheel and finding the auto adjuster laying loose in the drum and several other parts missing, He contacted Lippert to get the authorization to pull the other three wheels. He requested 4 hours. Lippert authorized 2.5 hours. Forest river stepped right up to cover the other hour and a half.

The service person found disconnected wires, wires with bad insulation and the magnet fell out in his hand on one of them. the RV guy wants me to front the money to buy the parts. Lippert policy as of January is that you buy the parts and send them in. Lippert then tests and inspects them and reimburses you for the ones that should be covered by warranty. Dynamax told me they will cover whatever Lippert doesn't.

Now, I get why Lippert makes you buy the parts, it is their policy with everyone. They were probably loosing quite a bit on non warranty issues that they could not recoup. If I would have taken it to a service center, I wouldn't even know of this policy. But, since I am on the hook for about $500 in parts for an obvious warranty issue, it kind of frosts me.

If Lippert cant get the brakes right, where else are they cutting corners?

I'm willing to bet that if you measured the wall thickness of a 7k axle tube from 10 years ago and today, you would probably be horrified at the thinness and porosity of the metal.

Didn't your mom teach you, if you didn't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all?

Okay, say something nice about your "el cheapo deluxe RV". Or were you being nice?nobiggrin When we visited with Sherry & Jesse(WestWardHo), we were impressed by their Trilogy. I know they had some upgrades on at least the suspension, maybe you might consider that line of thinking.confuse

Actually, Forest River/Dynamax is being very supportive. A wise man once said, "a happy GI is a complaining GI." He actually used the B word.

I'm just trying to be happy!

Ha, you thought it was to be sunny all the time? Actually, I see through your evil plot... publish out to the web a bunch of horror stories and such to scare away newbies from this way of life thus leaving more campground space for you and your HDT and not have to contend with the weekend warriors ruining your peace and quiet!biggrinbiggrinbiggrin Busted!

MarkS, I can't prove it and really don't want to claim responsibility, but we had just had Lippert replace the springs on our "el cheapo deluxe RV" and before we received the $700+ check labor reimbursement from Lippert I noticed a new tag line on their email saying something like "Lippert will no longer offer free replacement of parts under warranty". Jesse says it was because of me but I think coincidence. I can tell you that I was like a dog with a bone getting Lippert to stand behind their products so maybe Jesse was right. Lippert claimed we were overweight (we weren't from my understanding). Lippert sent at their cost new springs and insisted on sending back plates as well for safety reasons because we had experienced the second seal leak on the wheels of our "el cheapo deluxe RV" in a year . Lippert had all the part numbers but shipped the wrong back plates. We paid the labor at the time and did receive reimbursement from Lippert for the labor. Forest River/Trilogy was very supportive of us as well.

When we arrived at MorRyde just a few weeks later (maybe 5 at most) they weighted our wheels individually and we were not overweight. We had intended to get them weighed by Howard & Linda at the Spring Rally but our "el cheapo deluxe RV" caught fire at the Spring Rally as you might recall so had to be towed for repairs. Again Forest River/Trilogy was very supportive. MorRyde said the new springs were failing!!

MarkS, I think if I remember correctly you already upgraded the tires but please seriously consider the disk brakes and MorRyde upgrade. It's amazing the difference the disk brakes have made!

Then you will truly have a Deluxe RV, no longer el cheapo.

Sherry

Matt, at Dynamax sounded eager to ensure this was fixed. Unfortunately, Lippert is too busy to be much help. I am pretty reasonable when it comes to fixing assembly line screw ups. But three out of four brakes isn't coincidence. Certainly takes the wind out of the sails for "made in the USA". I love my coach. However, there are a few things I would look into if I were Dynamax or any other manufacturer using Lippert components.

Totally agree Mark. Just FYI, I read on this forum much earlier that Lippert Components Customer Service has a FaceBook page. When you post on there it gets REAL interesting how fast you get a response. 😜
