Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We've begun the process of packing up for moving and sorting for garage sales. This isn't the first time, we cleaned out a lot of cabinets, closets, and garage when we listed the house. We've been married 34 years and in this house for almost 25 of those. We packed out 7 boxes of garage sale stuff from the kitchen alone and there's no way the rest fits in a fifth wheel. Many of the items I had to pry from Jan's hands to put in the box. I told her "I think you're a borderline hoarder" she says "just wait til we get to your garage and shed."
This morning I started on the garage, I can't believe all the "great" garage sale finds that I "needed" but never used. I might end up with more boxes than her. We've known for years we wanted to do this, nothing like waiting til the last month.
This is an exciting time because we are so ready for change but squeezing all our "treasures" in a fifth wheel is gonna be a real challenge. I guess it will take several more purging sessions.

Life's too short - live it so you can say "remember when" not "I wish we had".
Totally relating! We just finished all our purging (moved out Thursday). We filled 3 30-yard dumpsters and that was only 1/2 of what we had to get rid of -- the rest was given away to charity or to the recycle center / scrap metal collectors.

If in 34 years you haven't learned which buttons not to push, you are hopeless. You have cleaned out before so you have experience. Cardinal rule number 7: never talk about how much stuff she has. This is one time when it is necessary to use the word "never". You will not live this down, not in this lifetime, probably not in the next. Unless you have something prolific to say, limit your responses to, "yes, dear". Geees, you guys walk this street over and over and you never learn. I am convinced that the only reason men are superior is because women let us believe it. I have my wife's permission to say that.

I'm going to have to speak to your wife - you weren't suppose to figure that one out. Must be one of the smarter ones - - we will really have to watch you a little more closely.

....45 years of marriage and the only fear I have is speaking in front of our church. I certainly hope that no one asks me to speak at my funeral. My plans for that is to create a PowerPoint slide show with a bunch of my pictures and my own thoughts about my life to be shown at my funeral.
Keep it simple.
And, no, the funeral won't come quicker because I don't "yes, dear" the wife. Some of you obviously don't know how to "train" a wife. (Campfire story to come some day.)

Wow! I thought I had a lot, but I couldn't even fill one 30 yard dumpster!
I'm closing my ebay business and a house.. The warehouse is 12500 sqft , 26 rows of pallet racked 20ft high and full. we estimated 200 pallets , plus the little stuff ( alot).. plus my small classic car "tinkering " area with a lift..Much of the stuff we don't know whats on them.. never got to them.
We have about 2 months to liquidate.. No choice but to have a auction and dump it all..Auction is set for August 16th. Its a shame.. But we hate Las Vegas.. so much violence, drugs, no culture etc.( good weather--That's it ! ). Got to get out. We made the wrong move settling here after a short RV'ing adventure. However, it has allowed to leave , better off than we came..5 years ago.
Hoarder? I pasted that level years ago..I bought 10k worth of junk and guns this weekend.. and I am in liquidation mode.. lol

Purging never stops!! We had 2 Saturdays in May where we got rid of "stuff" we brought with us in the 5th wheel that we haven't used in a year. This weekend we tackled our storage room, I cannot tell you how many times we looked at each other and asked "why did we save this"? 2 trips to the Salvation Army donation site and we know there will be more. A few things are listed on Craigslist, Dale is meeting someone this afternoon hoping to sell one of those items, and we've started moving those items we wanted to save into a smaller storage room. Yes, we'll still have a storage room, but it's quite a bit smaller and the monthly bill is dropping by almost 50%.

We recently took one of the bedrooms in our S&B house and made it into a small appliance storage room. This past weekend we emptied so many boxes containing appliances that our recyclable trash bin needed sidewalls to contain all of the card board.
We also ended up with 3 - 40 gallon trash bags full of the styrofoam packing material. We are only half done moving all of the appliances into the new storage room.
Next we will tackle her purse collection, then the shoes, then the jewelry, then the scrap book supplies, then the antique collection and on and on.... I'm sure glad she never wants to move out of the house.
She's not a hoarder, she is a collector....

I was never a hoarder nor a collector but my treasures sure built up. And no one realizes the true value of them. At least that's what the garage sale is telling me. My 2nd one is this weekend. Friends and family are giving me stuff to sell and I can keep the money to use for my trip. Split up some hostas and tried selling them at the garage sale but not much success. However the people at work are buying them up like no one's business. Even though I see the journey ahead of me, I am enjoying this part of the adventure right now. Sure the garage sale is work, but I am weird and am having fun with it. The goal was to hit the road with my fifth wheel and my friends but I changed and have put aside the big goals. Now my focus is planning out all the different steps and paths of my fulltime RV living journey and enjoying every single one of them.
All my model trains sort of makes our basement look like a hobby shop. Hoarder?.... warehouse manager! The good news is a lot of of my inventory is selling for more than I paid for it, so net net I'm not losing money on it... yet.
In March we hauled two trailer-loads of furniture and things we didn't want to sell or have with us to a storage unit near our son's house. He will use most of it in a bigger house some day. We had an auction in April. It was a quick way to rid ourselves of a lot of stuff. Before the auction we stocked the MH with everything we didn't want to sell. After the auction we are still going through boxes that we hadn't sorted yet!!! It never seems to end. Most of it will go to our kids, but now we have it piled in the MH. The pile is gradually getting smaller.
Our contract with our realtor ran out because she forgot to extend it. We are happy about that because now we can find a better one. We've had a couple of realtors come out to see the house and give us CMA's. A third one is going to come out this week. We are painting, trimming bushes, mowing, weeding, and generally taking care of the house while living in the MH. Hoping that this house can go soon!!!
I just finished 5 days of garage sales over 2 weekends at my place then at my sister's place. We made a list of everything left and carried it to Goodwill. DONE! Woo-Hoo. With my stuff and what my family and friends gave me to sell and keep the proceeds, I made $1,400. But the best part is that IT IS ALL GONE. And yet I can still see some more things that could go. It never ends.
I've been showing my mobile home but when I tell the prospects the lot rent is $600, the Wisconsites choke. The Illinois folk don't even blink. I know there is a wonderful Illinois person or couple out there who would fit really nice into this place. Oh Lord please send them, now. But I also know all in due time. There may be a reason I need to stay here a little while longer.
That's what I keep saying, Nancy. We are fine here, living in the MH and using the house plumbing. We know there is a buyer for our house out there. They just haven't seen it yet.
Lot rent of $600 would be very high for here. A buyer could get our whole house and 10 acres for a house payment of under $400.00.
Our 2nd Garage sale was yesterday and you can actually see the garage now!!! Feels good to purge - every time I get the urge to buy anything I just say - nope, won't fit in the home on wheels. I will have to find some new hobbies, since shopping was one of my favorites - but I'm sure the trade off will be more than worth it - just have to remember that sharing experiences with my family is better than any stuff could ever be, and two years after the experience I won't be looking to sell it in a garage sale for a quarter!!!

That's a great deal. Your house should sell easily. Just the property taxes and insurance here in Louisiana on my old S&B on 1/2 acre in the country was more than that. What state do you live in? Maybe you should advertise your house out-of-state to attract buyers who currently live in more expensive places.

I live in Wisconsin - just across the IL state line. I am trying to go after Il residents as they don't even flinch when I mention lot rent. IL taxes - especially around Chicago - are incredible.

We live in Missouri. The prices are all over the place around here. Our first realtor agreed with our listing price but now wants us to accept a (non)offer of 3/4 that price. She even said that our house is really only worth 60% of asking price. We've talked to other realtors who don't agree with her at all. We are now trying to get around 85-90% of asking price.
It is hard to enjoy the preparation phase to full timing when you know the value of your property but can't find someone who agrees with you. That goes for stuff as well as the home. Lesson: never again buy more stuff than I need because I will be so disappointed when I get rid of it. But the house? I know just the right person will pay for it but can we or do we want to wait that long. I put it into perspective like this. In five or ten years will the lesser price make a big difference in my finances then? Will it affect how I live in such a way that I will be struggling? If yes, then I have to wait. If no then I reconsider going lower. Right now getting rid of my home will give me so much peace that money can't buy.
