Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi, we live full time in 2011 Keystone Raptor 300 MP toy hauler in British Columbia (lots of rain most of the year). We ran air conditioning unit or the fan itself for maybe 1 hour since last October as there was no need to do so. Lately we had quiet a nice sunny and warm weather and we started smelling mold in our RV , and it turned out it was coming from the air vents in the ceiling. We unscrewed the plastic grate and checked the filter on our Airxcell 48254 air conditioning unit inside the RV , couldn't detect any smell there , everything looked dry and clean), On the roof there was quite a bit of black mold spread around the air vents (not the plumbing vents) that we have cleaned , but no mold was visible inside the vent , hard to see though as we could not remove the plastic plates with little holes in them. We also unscrewed the cover of air conditioning unit and the grill seemed to look dry and clean. Just in case we decided we will buy special foam cleaner and we'll use it on the grill any way.
We found an online advice that we could spray anti-mold spray into the air intake of the air conditioner wit only the fan on low and let it travel through the air ducts, then let it dray for an hour and ran the fan for some time, but could not figure out where that air intake is ( should we spray it on the coils of the grill?) We also have to mention that last time we went on the roof last summer it looked smooth and even but now it looks wavy and you can see the imprint of particle board under the rubber. The waviness seems to fluctuate though because one or two days later in the morning the roof seemed to straighten itself out a little. We checked the rubber and the seals and we can't detect any tears or leaks.
Could it be that moisture got in the particle boards from the inside of the RV? We used electric heaters throughout the winter and to fight the condensation also used small dehumidifiers as well as dry-eze pellets in the bedroom and living room, yet we still had to fight moisture and mold in the bedroom closet and under and behind the mattress (right now it's dry and clean in there , moved the mattress away from the wall and stuck more moisture absorbent pellets between the walls of the slide out and the bed).
We hope there is someone out there that can help us, your advice would be much appreciated.
The air intake is behind the filter you cleaned. Roof ACs recirculate inside air.

Yesterday I did a PhD in our air system, cleaned, sprayed with anti mold substance, ran the fan , sprayed again ect, ect Hoping for the best, and will assess the smell in couple of days.
