Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Since we're near Chicago (Elkhart, IN) and we have family & friends there, we need to visit. Wicker Park area and Barrington Lakes area. We are tall (bridges) and long and I'm having a devil of a time finding an RV Park that avoids major highways thru town. We can park our 5th wheel and take the truck to visit but we also need to consider dog.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Sherry

There's a couple RV parks in the Joliet, IL area. One is a Casino that we used to stay at years ago. It was pretty decent and would accommodate a large RV. There is also one called Leisure Lakes that is just West of I-55 near Joliet. It's a membership park, but you can stay there. I would park the RV at one of those parks and take the truck up to Barrington.
If you stay on the Interstate highways in the Chicago area, you should not have a problem unless you're over 13' 6" high.

Sherry, that was our stick n brick location. Lake Barrington is a suburb about 35 miles NW of Chicago. Wicker Park is a neighborhood well into the North side of Chicago. El Rojo and Pam had the wisest advise. There is no good way to get from Elkhart to the Barrington area. Your choices are Interstates right through Chicago and some very expensive tollways. Forget driving to Wicker Park. The streets in Chicago are no fun in a truck, plus, you'll need to parallel park it when you arrive, and that parking might very well be metered.
Where are you heading after you leave the Chicago area. If I knew that, I might be able to find you a place to park and a route to take.
One last thing: Yesterday, when we crossed over from Indiana into Cook County, Illinois (Chicago is in Cook County) fuel prices went up 40 cents a gallon.
I'm PM'ing you my phone number. Feel free to call if you want to discuss any of this.

We live 5-15 minutes from the RV parks in Joliet. If choose one of them, we would be happy to help you with Sadie during your stay.
Josie would love the company. We have fenced and secure back yard with lots of room to play.
I'm sending you our phone numbers in a PM and via email and we can work out the details if that works for you.

Thank you all. We'll know more about our direction by Wednesday latest. Thanks for the great offer to let Sadie play with the Wonder Beagle! Route around Chicago traffic important! 😄
We'll keep you posted.

Wow, Sadie has a play date with Josie the Wonder Dog on Saturday and we're looking forward to coffee with Brian & Cindi! Had a great chat with Paul (from Penny & Paul). They start workamping this weekend!
Jim01, we have a reservation at Leisure Lakes, thanks so much. It didn't show up on any of our searches so we really appreciate your suggestions.
We are so grateful for all your suggestions!

Well we had our first meet and greet with real RV Dreamers beyond these pages. We thoroughly enjoyed Sherry & Jesse's hospitality and tour of their Trilogy. Very nice. Answered all of our questions and gave great tips. Meanwhile Sadie and Josie became acquainted. Very fun to watch and will have lots of time tomorrow for a "full on" play date. Josie also learned what a cat was.
We are more anxious than ever to get on the road. (ha ha Mike, you were................ right all along.)
Josie is truly the Wonder Dog, she is adorable with freckles on her nose, playful, sweet and smart. Sadie not so much. She Seems to be deciding she's alpha so Josie just ignored her for a while after her rude behavior. Then they played and played and played.
We were so impressed with the planning, research, thought and spreadsheets that has gone into Cindi and Brian's plans. Trace, we have met your match!
Very seriously, these two fit into the family so well you'll love 'em and Mike, think you're right again. Just wait and see.
Jim01, Leisure Lake Membership RV Park is lovely and would be great in nice weather. I love looking out at the lake. I hadn't seen it on any research we'd done so you really helped ou.
Pam & Red, we tried the "come to us for burgers, etc" but they have a "schedule" and we fit in between 8 and 4:30. Ouch.
