Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

How'd you come up with your handle?

I'm a recumbent cyclist with a Catrike Speed trike and an Easy Racer Tour Easy long wheelbase bike. I like Trikester because it suggests trickster, as in a Native American coyote. On other forums, though, I've g one Recumbo, since it's inclusive of both two-wheeled and three-wheeled conveyances.

I've had it so long I almost forget where it started.   I think I originally got it from my 8th grade English teacher.  Some reference to Socrates and Plato.  I liked it because it's the start of my last name Gaddis.   And I've probably been using it for 30 years or more on online sites that need a handle.

My favorite hobby is jeeping and the original jeep or "General Purpose (GP) vehicle" received its name from GIs in WWII who called it a GP pronounced jeep. This is still debated today, but I figured GPNDavid was close enough.

It's from the Greek mythology -  a tormenter to Io, the heifer maiden.

We are Jay and Kim, the noregrets part is what we decided our 'life plan' would be after we lost our youngest Son at age 19 in 2011, we had planned on living and travelling in an RV after we had both fully retired at a much later time. After Matthew passed we decided that waiting to live our dream was crazy, so while Jay was doing his last deployment in Afghanistan I researched for 4 months, a week after he got home we bought our dream RV!

Unfortunately, we are still static full timers for another year or so, but we are trying (very trying) to get outa here and on the road

Love this thread, hope we didn't spoil the mood of it with our name story, just want everyone to remember the old adage, live for today!!

I use a lot of different “handles” for different reasons. The one I use here (FastEagle) is the most common.

During my more the 30 years of active service with the USN I served all around the world and on nearly a dozen aircraft carriers. I was an aircraft mechanic and served mostly with tail-hook aircraft.

I did two tours of duty with Fighter Squadron Forty-One. The first was from 1964-1966 with service aboard the USS Independence (CVA-62) out of Norfolk, VA. The aircraft was the F4 Phantom II. The second was from 1977-1980 with service aboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) also out of Norfolk, VA. The aircraft was the F14 Tomcat.

During my second tour with VF-41 I spent a whole cruise as it’s flight deck maintenance coordinator. All squadron maintenance coordinators used their squadron’s call sign. Mine was Fast Eagle. Some people on the flight deck only knew me as Fast Eagle.

Well I am a big fan of the underground rap group Insane Clown Posse. They have an album that they collaborated with some other artists on their label. It's called Dark Lotus. I happen to be Pagan and my pantheon is mainly Norse. So as a nod to Odin I put Raven infront of lotus. Plus I have raven black hair. So Ravenlotus.

Dogpatch......... I love the name... it brings back memories of my childhood. Did you know there was once an amusement park in Arkansas named Dogpatch.... My mom and my older sister worked there and me and my younger sister held season passes. I loved it there. So, many fond memories.

my screen name is a combination of two things. I had a cat that was named shysty which means something with an itch in the name. The name suited the cat! I had little kids at the time so I named her Shysty. I loved her so much. that is the first part of my name the second is that I love wolves. I even have a tattoo of one on my arm. my daughter suggested I combine the two. I have been using this name for many years now. All my friend say it suits me to a T.

Was big into an online game when trying to figure out a name. My character was a little shortie with wild green pigtails that looked like the ends of a celery stalk. The correct way to spell it was taken, so I got creative.

Classy Lady is a name I have used before when combinations of Ann don't work.  I have been studying Classical Guitar for about five years (this time around).  I love many types of music and classical training creates many opportunities.  I am very fortunate to be playing a hand-made guitar, made by Richard Young, a luthier from Eastford, CT.  It is a beautiful concert level guitar, which I was able to get because there were a couple of cosmetic flaws on the back. Nothing to affect the sound.  On the road I bring another guitar so I can keep practicing and hopefully play with a new friend.  Been playing some Scottish and Irish songs recently.  I will bring my guitar to the rally and hopefully will find someone to play with.

Hmmm.   I've been aboard the Nimitz a couple of times.  My dad was assigned to her for a few years from the date CVN-68 was commissioned.  From our beach home here in WA we've seen her heading out to sea or back to port a couple of times.

Absolutely fascinating thread on a number of levels.

Not much imagination on ours.  And far from cute.  Gonna have to work on that - and not the cute part.  That's a lost cause.

WE'RE NOT WORTHY!  lol

Dog Folks: Our entire lives have revolved around dogs in one way or the other. Kennel owners, animal cop, County adoption kennel manager, breeders, dog trainers, rescue trainers, dog lovers.

When we needed a "handle." we asked ourselves what we are? We love dogs. Any dogs.

So the answer was.... Dog Folks.

Not only was a sushi chef for many years, but I love sushi like a chow hound loves chow. Plus, before I was a professional chef, when I was broker than dirt, but was jonesing for sushi, I made hot dog sushi to "hold me over" between trips to the sushi bar. Thus a sushidog was born.

Chip - awesome photos (although the real sushi dog is pretty gross!). When we meet up on the road, you will have to make us some sushi! I love the hot dog idea! We've been using Pillsbury croissant roll dough and wrapping it around a dog, but rice & nori is much healthier and more delicious.

PS:  did YOU do that in Photoshop?

Nope, I have some Photoshop skills, but that is a stock photo. Not a bad job though.

Here's some of my work:

I made the 2 above while camping. They include salmon, snapper, spicy tuna, scallops and flying fish roe.

I made this platter for work. It was cut-out with Photoshop, but that's it. Better camera and lighting though.

I had just purchased 120 acres in the Bethany, MO area in 1996 and the wife and I were having lunch in the World Famous - lol-"TooT TooT" restuarant. The wife ask me what I was going to call the place and I said the farm I guess. Then as I was looking around at all the western decor, I saw a Branding Iron with a ROCKING B on it. Went back to the table after I purchased the Branding Iron and said "Here's what we're going to call it, THE ROCK'N B RANCH". Changed the name of my Trucking CO to Rock'n B Trucking and so it goes from there.

When we met I had a winnebago Chieftain. We took it on our honeymoon. After returning we used it as our shower house for several months until we got the bathroom fix up at the old farm house. For us the was the beggining.

My favorite Ice Cream

With a little RV story, about 20 years ago we were on the way home from "camping". We had our TT at an RV resort for a weeks vacation.
Since this was the pre digital era, and the kids were young enough to go along with it, we were singing in the truck while travelling, gee sounds quaint.
Well anyway, I came up with a few rhyming lines, funny then, forgotten now. The little darlings felt I had the makings of a rapper (Not), and Cookie Dough would be my "stage" name.

We came up with the name because the first thing that happens as soon as we get on the road is a bug crashes into our clean windshield. The 07 was the year we bought our first RV and started our journey in life.

Agree w you on that bug thing, but I'm pretty sure they're not volunteers  😜

My handle has nothing interesting about it, but Rob's story is freakin awesome.  Happy for you two ... I'm sure your life experiences have given you a perspective most of us will never know.  Bless you both.
