Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

RV Driving school - DONE!!

Whoo Hoo, thanks to Sherry's inspiration (WestWardHo) and my husband's nagging, I signed up for RV Driving School and completed the training in Yucca Valley CA as we were enroute from Tucson to Sacramento.  Phew, it's done, that's all I can say.

Sherry's enthusiasm was great and contagious, but I was scared to death I would wreck the house or kill one of us.  Well, we all survived, no damage to the RV or truck except somewhere along the training route we picked up a nail in one of our truck tires, got that fixed today.  I now feel like I might be able to be of some help as the second driver.  I still have a lot to learning, lane changes are a little scary and I absolutely HATED the super strong side winds we enountered on I-10 through Palm Springs yesterday,

My backing will need LOTS of practice and was not going to be accomplished in the Yucca Valley RV park where we were assigned the absolute narrowest site.  We'll see how Saturday goes, anyone north bound on I-5 from SoCal might want to watch out for the "student driver"!!!

Congratulations!!  Very happy for you.

In fact, Sherry inspired me too.  So, we are bringing RV Driving School to the Fall Rally in Goshen in September.  They will be doing their two-hour "Driving Your RV Safely" seminar and offering Behind The Wheel driving lessons before and after the Rally.  We're excited to offer this new opportunity to our Rally attendees!

Congratulations! Of all things RV'ng, this is what concerns me the most. Heck, I have trouble backing the lawn mower into the shed. How am I going to manage a 18 ft truck + a 35 ft trailer. I am very interested in attending driving school too!

I contacted them for lessons when I pick up my rig in FL early June, but they are not available. Neither is anyone from the other RV driving school. :(

So proud of you Ruth. The worry in advance of this school is not unlike the worry about going full time! What if....

I hate any strong winds when we're pulling no matter who's driving.

Still laughing about Ruth, Diane and I driving Steve's truck!

Great idea, Howard.

It was Bill Joyce's Diane who kindly said all women should learn to drive so she gets credit for starting this round!

Sherry

Hey, Ruth.

If you need more space to practice, head back to Oklahoma.  Lots of room here, but I'd delay the trip until after May (and storm season) has pretty much passed by.

Congratulations on the school.  When you drove our F450 way back when, I was pretty sure you would do well as soon as you "bit the bullet."

Terry - OK is NOT where we are headed any time soon, I prefer to avoid tornado season, besides, now that we're this far west, we're just continuing west and then north, art show season is heating up for Dale so we have a busy few months ahead of us.

Cheryl - not sure if this helps, but if you're near Lazy Days RV in FL, if they offer the same instruction as their AZ business, I was told repeatedly while we were in Tucson that they offered driving lessons.

Sherry - I'm sure you are way ahead of me in your confidence level, but thanks for the inspiration!!

So, for anyone headed north on I-5 Saturday between Bakersfield CA and Sacramento CA, please be kind to the student driver!!!

Thanks, Ruth. I inquired with LazyDays and they only offer classroom training - no hands on. Hopefully we'll be able to find a big empty parking lot to practice turns and backing up and to get comfortable behind the wheel, then we can take a classroom workshop.

If you google RV Driving schools Florida , there is one in almost every major RV destination in Florida...

I tried that, Mike and it didn't yield a lot of results.  Mostly just LazyDays (who don't have hands on classes), RV School (whose instructors left FL -- it's only a seasonal location; the next closest one is in Myrtle Beach, SC), and RVbasictraining who I am still waiting on an answer from.

Thanks, Mike. They are the ones who said all their instructors left FL for the season.

I don't blame them for leaving Florida before June. Me, I would enjoy being further north until late Fall, and then visit.

Did my first 150 miles of driving without an instructor heading north on I-5 today. Dale wasn't too worried, he got out his Kindle and started reading so I must not be scaring him muchbiggrinbiggrin
