Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Determing price for private seller/used RV

Hello everyone,

Looking at a used 39' fifth wheel, original owner/private seller.  I have looked at nadaguides.com and checked online for similar trailers.  However, I have found that the price on nadaguides can be inaccurate.  I was wondering if there were any other sources for getting an appropriate purchase price.

Thanks for all the great info on this site.

Find the rig on RVT.com and work with their numbers, not perfect but it allows you to see what dealers and others start at.

Hi, thanks for that link.  I did check, and can see starting prices. But what are selling prices?  You can expect 25+% discount of MSRP on new.  But used, what is a realistic offer?  And in buying used, it is out of order to request an independent inspection (at our cost)? And make the purchase subject to that?

Can't help you much on the price issue except I never pay asking in this kind of a situation (we recently bought a used class C at almost 30% under the sellers original asking) but absolutely get an independent inspection. If the owner balks walk away. Would you buy a home that wasn't inspected?

Wishing you good luck. Keep us posted.

Sherry

You can search ebay for completed auctions of similar 5er's and see what, if any actually sold for as well as ones that did not sell. Don't forget many owners overprice - they are emotionally attached and/or feel their home is worth more than it actually is. I would start out lower than the NADA low price - you can always go up but can't come down in negotiating.
