Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Rapid repositioning, looking for suggestions

We're headed to Dallas TX from Tucson AZ over President's Day weekend.  This was not in our plans but due to a family situation we find that we're making this trip a month earlier than planned and coming in from a different direction.  We had planned to be in Albuquerque, then Oklahoma City before we reached Dallas.

I have limited time to research this new route and accomodations in Dallas.  Looking for any and all suggestions.

We have 1000 miles to cover over a 3 day weekend so it's going to be a long haul.  Any suggestions on good one night stops on the way?  Any places to avoid?  We're thinking we'll be looking for Wal-Marts/Casinos/Rest stops, etc.

We also need to be close to the far north Dallas area (Walnut Hill & Marsh specifically), the closest RV parks I can find at 18-30 miles away, trying to find a mobile home park that might allow an RV for a month or two.

Came through Dallas in December and they are doing a ton of roadwork. There were a lot of very narrow, one lane roads. You can probably check on the Texas Department of Transportation for what areas they are working on now. We have decided we are going to be avoiding Dallas for awhile, even if that means going out of our way. It was horrific.

We are in the Dallas area Garland is where our house is,son living in house we are in RV. THe thing about state parks or COE will make you have to move every 2weeks. We have been searching for a more long term base. Nothing available that we could find suitable in area. Plantation in Mesquite is packed on top of neighbors. Spring Creek is really crowded also and tight maneuver in a large setup. We just moved to Shady creek in Aubrey it's a pretty straight shot to where you want to be. They have a monthly rate at about $325 a month plus electric.

Patti and Ed - understand you want to avoid Dallas, we don't have that option. We willl most likely have a funeral to attend of a close family member in the next 2-4 weeks, we hope to arrive while she is still alive. So avoiding Dallas is just not an option, our original plan was to come down from OKC and only come as far as Lewisville with the rig, would have mitigated much of the construction issues. Our only saving grace is that Dale is from Dallas, I lived there a number of years and we know a few alternate routes around the construction, but whatever it is, we have no choice, we just have to deal with it. Did you come in from the West? If so, any suggestions on places to stay on the route into Dallas from Tucson?

SuzyQ - thanks for the Shady Creek suggestion, will look at that closely, we might have one other option that I'm calling about in the AM, otherwise, that might be the best option for the price.

I live here in the DFW metroplex and it is true what you hear about the road construction. It is terrible. Virtually every highway and freeway is under construction somewhere along its route through the metroplex. If I did not live here, I would stay away until at least 2017.
There is another option for an RV park. It is the Sandy Lake RV Resort. We have driven through it thinking it might be an option for us, but it is not a very nice park, although it would work in a pinch. The pictures on their website are carefully taken. We did meet the folks who run the place and they seemed very friendly. The only reason I mention it is because you will not be here for a season and it might be convenient for you. It is right off I35 and the construction around it is not too bad. It might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the suggestions. We did look at Sandy Lake but since we lived in Carrollton for 11 years, we didn't have a good impression of that park at that time and RVParkReviews.com confirm that it hasn't gotten any better.

Sanger is a little further than we wanted to drive.

Any feedback on Destiny RV park that is near Corinth?

Again, thanks for all the help / suggestions. Normally we do a lot of research on our own but right now we're just running out of time. I think I have found a couple of places to stay on the trip there from Tucson so at least that part of the planning is taken care of.

When we came through we knew there was some construction, so we stayed the night before east of the metroplex (we were traveling from Georgia to Kansas), and made it through and stayed just North of the Metroplex that night. I will have to look back on my mapping program where we stopped that night. It was outside Dallas. We were not going to stop until we got through all the road construction. I am not sure it would be much help.

We aren't familiar with the Texas area, but will pray for a safe and swift trip for you two. And that everything goes good while you are there.

If you are able to time when you go through there it isn't to bad. Guessing you will be coming up I20 to I35W and going around to the north side. Most of the construction is on I35W on the northwest side of town. We been that way a couple of times a few months ago. Timing is the "key".

If you come down 287 from Wichita Falls, there are 2 or 3 rv park right off the highway. Two of them looks nice and the other one is questionable. Not sure of the name of any of them, just remember seeing them.

We stayed at Destiny a long time ago, so fuzzy memory here. I remember it had some nice amenities and there was even a rv car wash. Lots of restaurants along I-35 East We stayed in Grapevine at a real nice park but I am assuming that is a bit too far south for you....I will look up name if you are interested.

Thanks all, I think we found a place in Lewisville, we'll be arriving Sunday afternoon coming in from I-20 to I-35, looking at as many options as possible to avoid the I-35 construction. I think arriving on a Sunday will be easier than a weekday.

Love this forum and the help / support.

Just wanted to post a quick update as I've had a few messages and emails wondering how our travels went. We left a day earlier than planned due to news we received on Thursday. 1000 miles from 3 PM Friday to 5 PM Sunday, 2 nights of Wally Docking and we arrived tired, sore butts from sitting so many hours, but thankful to be there. Gracious park hosts when we arrived 24 hours early than our reservation and they still had a spot for us with a great view of Lake Lewisville.

We arrived and are now spending time with family and are thankful to be here with our home on wheels as we are with Dale's family during his Mom's last days on earth.

Glad you made it safe and sound in time to spend with the family. We have you in our thoughts as Dwight lost his mom a little less than four months ago. We were fortunate to be able to drop everything to send the final weeks at her side. The time goes by too quickly but enjoy the memories and time spent with family - they will last forever!
