Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Ok, I've seen some threads discussing the comfort level (or lack thereof) of watching a tv in a MH that's mounted above the windshield (you have to strain your neck or sit sideways to view).
Here's another (probably dumb) question.... I noticed when looking at photos, that the privacy curtains are usually behind the seats, meaning that if you want privacy, not only are the front windshield and windows blocked, but also the tv! So how do you enjoy watching a show at night in your pj's (or other evening attire) without the neighbors able to see everything going on in the coach?
Yes, again, more proof of how I overthink things!!! But, hey, someone has to!

The TV’s are above the windshield and the curtains so the curtains don’t block the TV.That “above the windshield” location is why some don’t like that location for the TV.We’re one of those couples. There are MH’s that don’t have the TV there, but it seems that 95% of them are there more or less. That is one of the reasons we chose a 5er.If you like the TV there in a MH, well and good. That’s why we have choices.
My first choice is absolutely a 5'er, but not sure we'll be able to afford a good model + a truck, especially with the type of transmission, suspension, brakes everyone recommends.

Flat screen TVs are ending up in different locations in newer motorhomes, it is up to you if these locations are better than above the dash. We are fine with it being above the middle of the dash, and it makes it easier for Diane to do Zumba.

My coach has a mount that folds the TV up against the base of the overhead area in the drivers area.
I guess seating configuration will decide who has to crane there head while watching..so make sure you claim the best seat!...I just park my butt in the swivel recliner and find my comfort level......Nikki and I only fight over the Remote!
most coaches the curtains wrap very close to the winshield area so it should not be a "PJ" problem....if it becomes a problem with those that like to stare thru your window......watch TV in the nude , it will scare them off and they will never do it again.....(This does have a severe Psychological effect to some and has caused heart problems to surface .....USE This method carefully!!)

cherylbrv; We too were SET on getting a 5th wheel to full time in until we found the Winnebago Journey 40U where they moved the TV from the overhead to an eye level cabinet across from a nice "L" shaped sofa. Well the Journey is now our full time RV, once the DW retires.
Our personal choice is a 5er and we spend more on the truck than the unit. With a good sturdy truck it has been easier to upgrade to a better 5er without any trouble. It's as I said, a personal choice, and we almost never buy new, we let someone else take the depreciation hit and the manufacturer glitches first. Flat screen TVs are a boon, place them where you want them.
Back in the 70s and 80s before the manufacturers were putting in the 120V TV with 25" or larger screens a lot of folks would bring a large TV from home and set it up on the dash or on a small table on top of the doghouse (engine cover). That made the TV at eye level and was a lot easier to watch instead of the 12"- 15" 12V TVs most were installing in the overhead cabinet.
I remember my mom and dad in their Foretravel MH would use a couple of clothes pins to make sure the privacy curtain stayed closed in the middle.

The TV location was one of our key items on our checklist. Our motorhome has the TV across from the sofa... just like my S&B! I figure we'll spend a lot of time there when we start full-timing in October... might as well be comfortable
the original question wasn't so much the location of the tv (although that's a consideration) as it was the location of the privacy curtains in a MH which, from photos I've seen, seemed to block the tv when closed. But you've assured me that's not the case.

We don't lose any space because our privacy curtains hug the inside of the windshield. The tv is eye level across from the sofa mid-coach. Ours is a 2011.
We have removed the original television sets that came with our coach and purchased a flat screen. When we're parked it will sit on the dash, with the privacy curtain between the tv and windshield. At this point we're not sure exactly where the tv will eventually end up, but it works for us.
