Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Well looking out my office window at the 2 feet of snow and below 0 windchill, I have started our full timing countdown list. Anything that comes to mind or tips I see on the forums are jotted down for our planned Jan 1 2015 departure to our next life chapter. We have been sorting and reducing our lifetime collection of things we thought we would use and never did and fixing the odds and ends to get our house up for sale. After working at Toyota Motor Manufacturing supplying parts for the "just in time" method of car manufacturing , my wife is the the king of logistics so I'm hoping for smooth sailing there. We have been RVing for around 13 years and sold a few houses so this won't be too foreign for us. Pretty sure we'll be keeping our NY address for a variety of reasons at least for now. Oh, and the best part? After agonizing over a 5th wheel or Class A for close to a year Santa decided for us and delivered a brand new 2014 Tiffin 36LA to us. Its pretty tough seeing that guy all covered in snow!
Having so many things to do does seem like it makes the time go quicker. So, I'm having an issue with the "Santa" deal. Evidently he starts delivery from the east coast and by the time he gets to KS, all the really good stuff is pretty much gone or someone in this household isn't being as good as they should be. It does look like you have everything in order and I surely understand the cold weather issue!
Yeah, its really hard not to pull the plug now. Been working since I was 13 mostly repairing or building something for people and I am SO so ready! Haha! The Santa I have been working with is really bad Santa. He is making me pay a monthly fee until my house is sold.
I am going to be so thick skinned by the time I get to pull the plug. Hey Howard, how about a rule about nose rubbing? Maybe once my house is parked in front of my house I'll just photoshop pictures of us traveling the world and write all kinds of posts that are nothing but lies. I'll tell stories about fuel mileage like the Spaniards got. Staying at the end of the rainbow and collecting the pot of gold. Using sour grapes to make whine. (Terry, see what I did there?)
Congrats Stargeezer(love that handle). May your prep be nothing but smooth sailing. Harrumph

StarGeezer heck! Your just a kid!!! And by the way; I must have been real bad over the years; have owned the same old 1988 Motorhome since 2005. Santa won't even let me trade up. When he stopped by on Christams Eve empty handed except for the lump of coal; I sent his "duff" packing!!
Enjoy the new life; happy Dancin' is on it's way. PIEERE

The grass is always greener........I'm sitting in 75 degree, sunny southern California and GREEN with envy that you have a 2014 Tiffin already. It's always something .
You have the same Santa we do....usually comes through on our wish list but adds those pesky payments to "prolong the joy of the gift". At least you'll have a year of those payments out of the way before you head out, or less to pay off when the house sells - either way you're moving forward.
Even though we will have to wait for early summer, we are delighted to also be able to say we're heading out "next year". That alone feels great!!
Enjoy your count down list - the reward is going to be so amAzing!!
The year will be gone before you know it!!! So last year Santa got us our DRV Mobile Suites (a few days late), only took 4 more months to get it to the "home" driveway and then it was a very fast 2.5 months later when the F450 was pulling the DRV Mobile Suites out of the "home" driveway for the very, last time!!! Cried a few tears, honked the horn in excitement and we were on our way!!! Double house payments with truck / 5th wheel for 3 months and suddenly no house payments at all, life is GOOD!!!
My only regret looking back is that we didn't start the house prep / purging of stuff soon enough, might have made the entire transition a little smoother, less stressful, so my advice is to take advantage of a year to do that. We gave ourselves 4 months, which turned into 5 months but when the house sold in 5 days after 5 offers we were estactic!! Then reality sunk in and we realized we still had way more purging to do, house closing delayed by 19 days turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we got it done with 5 days to spare.
It may not seem like it but this year will be all part of the adventure that you will look back at. Embrace it and enjoy it the best you can. I'm sure a good story or 2 will come of it for down the road.
Like others have said, use it wisely. A year goes by pretty fast and the last couple months can get crazy if it starts moving fast.
Thanks everyone for all the kind words and encouragement. My wife and I daydream and try to imagine a life without schedule and routine. Its both exciting and frightening at the same time. We go on many trips during the year including trips to Colorado and Utah. Once we are finally under way it just feels so good. We both love being on the road.
Glad you guys are heading for your dream also. Its going to be 0 here on Monday and I keep thinking about next year when we will be somewhere further south. It helps keep the dream going.
Congrats Stargeezer! We are in the Southern Tier of Upstate NY and are going this year as long as the house sells. We are going to change domicile to South Dakota - I'm sure you have your reasons to hang on to NY - but we can not stand the taxes anymore!
Best wishes on your journey's.
