Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

New Full Timers starting April 2014

New adventures on the horizons.  My husband, Rich will be retired by March 1, 2014 and we will be full time Rvers by April 1, 2014.  We sold our home one year ago and moved closer to his office while we downsized our stuff, bought a Heartland 32 foot Sundance and a 2500 Ram( which I think we are going to change to a little bigger).

We are from Michigan, going to head to Florida or at least south for some warmth for our maiden voyage.  Will spend our summers in Michigan near our kids and 1st grandchild.

We are excited and a bit nervous all at the same time.  Still trying to figure out what pots and pans, etc. one really needs in an RV.  Love to hear what others have packed then found they never needed:)  Also, how one has found the parks they like the best, trying to read and soak up on all the great info on these pages.

Thankful to find so much great info on the net, looking forward to meeting some of the wonderful writers of these forums on the road.  There is a lot to learn, you experienced rvers are our teachers.

Be Safe,

Rich and Marion " WanderingWaits"

Welcome! One thought is that for some time we were in SE AL, Ozark area near Fort Rucker and it can be a nice winter spot. Met many people coming from MI & IL while we were there. I grew up in MI and my brother and many relatives are still there. I miss MI but not the winter there.

Since we can't go until at least 2015, I'd appreciate it if you all would stop rubbing our noses in it.

Mark, you make me laugh!

Welcome Rich and Marion. Back in the dark ages, I grew up in the UP. I'm impressed how well you've started the downsizing already, that is the toughest part!

Only advice I can give you about what to take for the kitchen and elsewhere is take half of what I took in everything! 😭 Seriously because we had the space you can only imagine what I've taken! I'm embarrassed at how many sheets, towels, clothes, jackets, sweaters, PJ's, pots and pans, etc that I have. We are making donations to Goodwill and shelters along the way. In fact I have a load in the back of the car now.

A friend did recommend a complete set of cookware that fits in one cubic ft. Often found at marine supply places. I have it but haven't used them yet because I also took a few of my favorites from the house. One purchase I made that I wouldn't give up is a Burton Induction Cooktop. Doesn't heat up the house like gas does on hot days and you can adjust the level of electric draw as well as temps! A good outside grill with a griddle is very useful.

Remember there are stores everywhere and if you find you forgot something you can always replace it along the way. No need to stress you've done the hardest part! 😄

Sherry

I don't mean to rub anyone's nose in it, really {liar} I am extremely sensitive to the situations we find ourselves in {liar! I only care about my own problems}. I will continue to dedicate myself to my job and not complain about decisions the boss makes that I don't necessarily agree with {cough, BS}.

Hey, WWH, we bought a burton (not burton, NuWave) at bed bath and beyond. She liked it so much she bought another on TV, which comes with a spare so now we have three. I think they will be great for outdoor breakfasts on the picnic table. After all, we have to use that outdoor 110v outlet for something.

Of course none of this will happen for at least 639 days. Not that I'm counting.

Hey, Mark.

I'm not a wine aficionado, so I have a question for you or any of the others.

Are sour grapes good for making wine?

Or....

....are they just for making "whine?"

Actually, those of us that may be living full time in our RV's but not traveling, might even have to relate to your attitude.

(Just kidding, Mark.)

Terry

Welcome Rich and Marion! Glad to have you aboard! We're right there with you, we hope to hit the road March 2014...sorry Mark {liar}! We still have to sell the house though, but we're told they're selling fast.

Terry, that was a good one. Sour grapes are used to make whine. I have put that in my book of cynical responses. I hope you don't have it copyrighted.

El Rojo, you are so very cruel... Tee hee hee

Thanks to all for the info and greetings.  love the idea of the induction cooktop, going to look into that. Looking forward to getting started. Downsizing has been a job, but considering we were not even thinking about living in a 5th wheel a year ago, we have done well.

We aren't even campers really, so all this is new, new, new...... so much for the not being able to teach old dogs new tricks. Adventure here we come!

Can not wait to meet some of you folks on the road.

The inductions are great in warm weather because the don't heat the surrounding area, something to consider when its raining, and 90* out.
Now I'll just go find a bottle of wine so I'll forget about all this whinning.
