Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Do You Make New Year Resolutions?

A couple of years ago I asked on a forum if anyone made New Year resolutions and they basically said they were older and didn't do that anymore.hmm  But, I'm older and I do.  For me, making New Year resolutions means setting goals to strive for and I'm hoping I'll never be too old for that.  So, do you make New Year resolutions?  For me, the most important is to finish the work on our house which is currently being held up due to winter weather followed by deciding how we want to approach the lifestyle whether it be full or part-time to begin with and what the best RV purchase would be.  Other than that, eat (healthy), drink (more water) and be merry (have manageable goals that I work toward) for tomorrow and, well, you know the ending.biggrin

My DIL tells me it is the Year of the Wooden Horse (Chinese astrology).  For fun, I looked it up and the last Year of the Wooden Horse was 1954 the year my husband and I were born.  So, maybe this will bring us good luck.  I know, reaching but you never know.

A Happy and Blessed New Year to all!

I think why hardly any make New Years Resolutions is because some feel guilty when they realize they broke them! LOL! I resolved to become a kinder; sweeter; gentler person many times over the past years; I am still working on that! Hah! Did you make a freudian slip; now i know your Age!!! LOL!

Your "Dreams" will come true; as you take it one step at a time! It's the waiting game that causes my anziety; that's when I have to look to my forum "Buddies" and prayer to quell the fires!

OH! Hasppy New Year! PIEERE

Even when I was younger, I didn't do New Year's resolutions.  But then, I see resolutions as totally different from setting goals.  To me, they are more like "wishing on a star" in that there is no real planning for a goal in a resolution.  Setting a goal almost requires an establishment of some kind of plan where a resolution is merely a statement.

I guess my only resolution has been to never make New Year's resolutions.  No sense being embarrassed by failures.

Maybe it is my "rural" upbringing and roots.

I always just make sure not to make the same mistakes I did in the past year...(at least more than twice ! )

Looking forward to another year of fulfilled dreams , new friends and those small moments when instead of asking myself why.......I get to stand and look out and know the answer....(til I have the other moment)

Live , breathe , Relax !!!!!

life is measured in breathes.....the ones that keep you alive, and the moments that take them away!!!

Terry: Rural? I grew up in the biggest hog raising county in MI.   Per wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year%27s_resolution I am never embarrassed by failures. I have had many and expect to have more. You can't have any successes without a few failures.  "Wishing upon a star"?  That is just hopeless.

PIEERE: I have reached the point where I am happy about my age since I know many that haven't made it this long. Many years ago, I wanted to live to be 102 but now, not sure about that but I guess the goal of striving for a healthy 102 years stays in the back of my mind. And, I think you're a nice and sweet person or you are pretty good at faking it in your posts! I'm hoping you have nothing but good news about your health in 2014 and beyond.

The last one I made was not to make any more. I have been really good at that one.

Back when I DID make them I only kept one. And that was when I stopped smoking many many years ago. I figured if I was ever going to keep one that was a good one to achieve.
The last few years I always said I would stop working so much and enjoy life,,, well I don't work at all and now enjoy the fulltime life style so I guess I have done a pretty good job on that one also.

Every year I make the same one - organize and de-clutter - never happens... Somehow marriage, S&B houses, 40 hrs+ workweeks, etc., etc., do me in. Maybe this year, with the "rv dream" in sight it will supply the will power I sorely need. I'm setting a small goal - throw away all unnecessary paper. I don't think I need bills I received 2 yrs ago, if I didn't pay them then I certainly don't need to look at them now!

Yes, I am still young. Yes, I make them. But I don't hold it against myself if don't achieve them. #1- Get Healthy #2- Learn to Belly Dance #3- Learn to juggle.

I have always viewed New Years Resolutions as quitting bad habits.

Now! ..Why would I want to quit a bad habit!? - Bad habits are sooo FUN!

I wouldn't want to quit a bad habit, because I would be setting myself up for a fall no ...because I like my bad habits sooo much!  - So, I just enjoy my bad habits instead!

Maybe, to some, my colored text is a bad habit of mine. no - But I like color!    - I feel guilty about this,no ...but it makes my posts much more quickly identifiable to myself.  - I am a housefly.

Ok. There is 'one' thing that I would like to quit ...or at least cut down on ...and 'that' would be to spend much less time wasting my time just babbling on forum internet sites.

!!!HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

For about 21 years, I made a New Years resolution to lose weight.  Didn't work out so well for me.

But then last year - I made the same resolution and for some reason it stuck this time - there is now 41lbs less of me to love!  YAY ME!

Now, this years resolution will be keeping it off!  Wish me luck!

Thanks and Happy New Years!  And to those going to make a resolution (or more, if needed) GOOD LUCK!  Whatever it is - YOU CAN DO IT!

Kelly

I've always seen NY resolutions as promises to myself. If I break the promise I'm the only one let down. Sometimes they are big general resolutions like "getting healthy" and sometimes little specific ones like "always return the shopping cart to the store or cart corral". I've kept that last little one for seven years while the bigger ones require more yearly upgrades . Eat, drink and be merry is a favorite default!

For 2014 I've resolved to finalize our get-out-of-debt plan by the end of the year which will give us about 5 months cushion before selling the house and getting the MH. Making that an enjoyable endeavor rather than a torturous sentence of self-denial will be the challenge!

The end result will be soooo worth it though. I know this from reading about all of your realized dreams (= hard work, commitment, tenacity, dedication, etc.) here on the forum and am inspired to join your ranks!

We were born in the Year of the Monkey.....which is a whole different story .

Happy New Year to all, regardless of your resolution-ness for 2014!

Since 2014 is the year we intend to go fulltiming, then there is no real resolution to be made, except to continue to do what it takes to endure the process to achieve the RV Dream. evileye We have been resolving to live our lives now to the fullest. Perhaps since 2014 is the year of selling the S&B, we have to resolve - and pray - for patience wink

Happy New Year RV Dreamers aww

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes….
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something. So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

― Neil Gaiman

Take this in to your RV life and all will be well!!!!!!!!!......this  is one new year's resolution that should be easy to keep!
