Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Solar Install in PA

All of my research on solar panels seems to heavily endorse AM Solar.  I would be absolutely fine with ordering from them, but am totally unqualified to install by myself.  A trip to Oregon just for the install seems a really long distance.

Could any of you recommend an installer in my area (central PA) or reasonably close (at least on this side of the Mississippi blankstare)?

Thanks for the help . . .

FRETZ rV has excellent reviews in RV service reviews, go and check it out..Additionally I would not purchase from AM unless I was installing myself or having them install. Purchase the panels from the installer that you will use , this will put the entire liability on one company...trust me, good luck....

I would send "byseaandbyland" a PM. I believe he just completed the training in Oregon.

Why not give John Palmer at PalmerEnergySystems dot com a call.  He's in Florida (where it's warm), has a great reputation, and comes highly recommended.

BTW. If you send him an email, expect a call back. So, be sure to include your cell number in the email.  That's just the way he rolls.

Hope this helps.

Cindi,

I totally agree with Genecop, whoever you have do the install make sure you purchase everything from them so all of the warranties including the pass thru warranties come from them. I did my own (see pics below) and purchased all of the materials from Northern Arizona Wind and Sun... www.solar-electric.com and got really good deals. If you have someone else do your work make sure it is done by a licensed electrician using the NEC so it is all done by codes.

Make sure you get several quotes and do a lot of research. I recommend that you search Jack Mayer's website where he has really good info a d recommendations.

Good luck!

Les,
Like how you mounted everything on the plywood and then put the entire board in place. I have been "devouring" Jack Mayer's website and anything else I can find, but I am just not that knowledgeable about electrical "stuff". There just doesn't seem to be anyone in the NE who does this, so I believe the suggestion to contact Palmer in Florida makes the best sense for me.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it!

Cindi,

I was looking online and found this company in PA that may be worth at least contacting to see what they offer and check what installs they have done...

Good Luck

I sent him an email three or four weeks ago, and have NEVER heard back.  Is he still in business?

Kelly was right. Greg (byseaandbyland) has been doing solar for years and he just completed the training at AM Solar and is located just a few hours away right outside of Philadelphia.

Thanks everyone!!

Cindi, what sort of training would someone that has been doing solar for years need? Solar is not rocket science. Good practices are pretty static. Your statement raises some questions in my mind....which is why I'm asking.

I believe the training qualifies him to be a AM Solar Installer certified by the company to install their products.

I talked with him just last week on the phone (after emailing the Friday after Thanksgiving.)  Every time I send him and email, he calls me back on the cell phone.

Try the phone number on the website.  Never takes longer than a day or two for me.

Hope this helps.
