Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

furnace failed AGAIN

It's 4:30am, outside temperature is minus 5 & the furnace has failed again. Down to 57 degrees in the RV. We have space heaters going but can't get it any warmer.
We've been in this 2008 MS for 3 years & every winter the furnace stops working. Every time it fails, we replace the mother board & it starts working again.
The furnace failed 1 month ago, so bought another new mother board. The furnace worked for a month. And now it's failed again.
Before we freeze to death, does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem really is with this furnace? Having the board continually fail can't be normal.
I appreciate your thoughts about this.

Cindy

Clean all the contacts on the mother board....pay special attention to the white or black slip on Molly connections....a can of contact cleaner (available at auto parts or radio shack) will help with the connectors and a pencil eraser to clean the board contacts

dont forget to check your thermostat......you can jump the 2 wires going to the heater(this can be done at the heater)

Might not be the motherboard. Might be the regulator. Just sayin'.

Hope this helps. Had the same thing with mine. New regulator fixed the issue.

Sounds like a short somewhere. Look for bare or stripped wires going around bends or turns during the installation process. Do this at the thermostat also. Follow Mike's instructions too, might just not be making contact.

Hope this helps.

Do you still have an old mother board? If so re-install it. If it works than Mike's instructions will probably solve your problem.

Mine did the same thing. Removed all the splice connectors (the ones that you crimp one wire to another one and it is supposed to make a connection), got some shrink wra and the trusty soldering iron, soldered all connections and shrink wrapped all conections. Used contact cleaner on everything else, never a problem since, other than consuming propane like there is an unending supply.

definitely check those crimp connections. Suburban had a reputation for not getting those things tight back when we owned our 07 Montana. Too many furnaces (mine included) on the Montana Owners Forum were "fixed" by correcting this issue.

Thank you all for your suggestions.  My husband did check everything & found a loose connection.  Tightened it, hoping that the furnace would work, but it didn't.  So we purchased another mother board, installed it, made sure all conections were tight & the furnace is working again.

For future reference Cindy......dont throw away the old board , there is a rebuilder that will fix the board for alot less than buying a new one. have it rebuilt and put it away for future problems.

I will post the Contact info on here as soon as I pull it out of my file cabinet ....(you think I would have put it on the computer!!)
