Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello All, my name is Helen and I have been looking at fifth wheels on the internet for about six months. I use to be a travel nurse for eight years going around the country working on short-term contracts for 3 to 6 months in one place. I then found out I had cancer, came home to Texas and went through three years of hell trying to fight this battle and finally won. Then four month ago I discovered I had cancer again and came through that battle quite easily, phew! Now, I have itchy feet again and want to go back on the road. I know I cannot buy one immediately, but I figure about two years I will have enough money to purchase a new fifth wheel and a good used one ton truck (I think I need a one ton) and then work maybe six month out of the year and go see everything I ever wanted to see. My purpose here is pick all of your brains (as much as you will allow me). I know I need to go to RV shows and plan to start with the one in Tampa coming up. So, thank you all in advance for all your future awesome advice.
Thank you Mike, I have been going through some posts here and have learned so much, and need to learn more. I know I will tons of questions after I educate myself more. The one thing I am really excited about is the Tampa RV show coming up.
My husband had a lung removed so we are in a similar situation. He has a follow-up CT scan and visit with the oncologist next week. Our full-timing plans may change depending on the results (at least for a while) but we're still preparing for it.
This is one of the best forums to follow. You get honest answers to your questions and a wealth of information you didn't even know you needed.
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. As you've noticed, you've already begun to receive "good vibes" from the forum participants. Those same folks will also be there to help you with all kinds of answers to questions. On occasion, you may get unexpected answers that may indicate that your original questions presumed the wrong answer. So, feel free to ask and enjoy the research and planning. Don't get into a big hurry to decide that you've found "the one" RV. You may discover that something else out there is better.
Oh, and you are likely right that you will need a 1-ton truck, but wait until you choose your trailer before choosing the truck. You certainly want your truck to be heavy enough to safely handle and stop the trailer of your choice.

I wish the best of luck (and add your husband to my prayers) on his upcoming check up. I know how hard it all is and the how so many people do not realize how hard it is to be sick. It is the hardest job I've ever undertake and hope no one has to go through what I went through. But if there is any advice I can give, trust your oncologist. He/She is your best friend.
I see your by line is "many cats", I breed Ragdolls. The coolest cats I have ever come across.
Your reply and your history encourages me in many ways. As you well know, there's quite a bit of anxiety before every visit to the doctor. Every prayer is a much appreciated gift. It's also very encouraging to hear about women who are solo fulltimers or going to be. You can read between the lines - it's a possibility.
My cats are Heinz 57 cats, who knows how many breeds are mixed in them! One is part Manx and part Tuxedo, a beautiful black and white female with a little ball of a tail, another is a gray stripped tabby female with no tail and the third one is a male gray tabby with a long, long tail... I've had Siamese, Persian, but no Ragdolls (they're adorable) but mostly our cats have been rescued from either the local pounds or stray life.
I look forward to seeing your posts. Maybe someday our cats will meet!
Welcome to the Friendliest RV forum on the internet in my Opinion. Prayer sent for everyone's maladies! Also people here are here to offer their suggestions and some time even their help!

Welcome, we are in Texas also. This a wonderful forum. Lots of great info. I googled your cat breed, that is quite interesting. Would love some pics someday.
